(The post in this thread I intended to reply to seems to have been deleted. So I'll add the reply to it I wrote anyway, in case the info is useful to someone.)

"Not currently, but this evening I finished implementing a patch to bypass specific basic objectives that have been cause for concern, and remove their completion XP reward.

Fresh from the oven so needs to go through review, QA and release candidate testing, though.

To clarify, is it specifically the Basic Combat and/or Basic Prayer challenge you want to bypass?

And basic challenges don't expire, so unfortunately, no, waiting it out isn't currently an option."

The current choices are very limited and it feels like DTDs are becoming an outdated reward.

Can't really comment on that. It's more of a combat council decision.

Just to note, if you've created your new ironman skiller that recently, and would rather start over than wait for a fix... as of the daily challenge update on Monday, any new accounts will get the new basic challenge onboarding, which I designed to be skiller-friendly. (You don't get any basic combat/prayer challenges in the new batch.)

As you've noted, basic challenges don't expire and can't be rerolled (AFAIK this was also the case before Monday's update).

After completing the 9 basic skilling challenges, since non-basic challenges get replaced with new ones every day, you'd be able to let the skills you don't want to engage in get replaced each day, or reroll the ones you don't want with vis wax.

Since you created your account just before Monday 15th, looks like you unfortunately still have the old set of 5 basic challenges, which include a combat challenge and a prayer challenge.

So if you stick with this account, and don't want to complete your ...

  • Dg tokens

  • Box of clues
  • Menaphite gift
  • Slayer coupons

None of the 6 items you've listed above are currently substituted for ironmen.

We did run our rewards past the ironman council, but I acknowledge that some ironmen take a more hardline view than others.

So if you feel that any of the above aren't in the spirit of ironman mode via daily challenge weekly rewards, please let us know, and we'd be happy to raise them again.

The only ironman-specific feedback change so far is to decrement the size of and substitute cash bags (though that likely won't release on Monday as our team's QA are assisting another project this week).

As in D&D daily/weekly/monthly reset tokens?

First I've heard of those being an issue for ironmen. (Admittedly had my head down implementing patches the last couple days, so I may have missed a post or two.)

As far as I'm aware, we've given D&D reset tokens to ironmen in the past.

If the D&D reset tokens are contentious for ironmen and ironmen feel they aren't in the spirit of the game mode, we'd be happy to substitute them for ironmen.

Understandably cause for concern and I appreciate you raising it! Thanks for your thread and your well wishes. :)

Just voicing my opinion here.
No objections to Jenna's document.
I'm one of the "aggressive" players who would enjoy a total XP block, however...
I do understand that this would invalidate the effort of other player's builds.

I wonder if there could be an (agreed upon) solution such as what was mentioned, the "chat badge" proving that you had never utilized the full XP block, including the addition of quick chat statements.

If this isn't desirable by the players impacted, what could be done to allow some players to utilize a total XP block while at the same tome not devaluing the effort of other builds?
As was stated, Janna's idea is a fantastic start.
I'd still like to get back to the drawing board to see if a total XP block could be implemented without negatively impacting other player's builds.

Thanks Mod Stu and all of you players who have helped/will help in this discussion.

Discussed it with Daze and we'd prefer to not implement a chat badge or titles, as it brings more visibility to an account type that's not an official game mode (and I don't think could realistically be officially recognised, since ultimately everyone's particular approach to being a pure/skiller is unique and self-imposed), and becomes one more strange thing for the casual player to grep.

Quickchat hits a nice beat for us, though, as it's relatively 'underground' and provides a way to prove the state of your account to each other in a world with XP toggles. Quickchats are also quick to implement so we can afford to add them as needed. :)

We're considering a more holistic approach to skillers of a way to turn off "direct" XP rewards (from quest completion, challenges, etc) for certain skills via Nastroth, rather than continuing to modify individual content's rewards.

Here's a link to JannaMechanic's latest proposal for direct XP blocks:

https://www.reddit.com/r/runescape/comments/pvcjsa/comment/hkubst1/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3

It's buried in a reply to a thread where there's been lots of discussion around skiller/pure QoL (that's gone far beyond the original thread topic), as I thought you might find that an interesting read if you've not already been involved. :)

You've admittedly had a rather small sample size (2 occurrences) to extrapolate a drop rate.

The frequency of DTDs is closer to 1/month. They happened to fall adjacent on this occasion.

I can understand the perceived value of a deathtouched dart since it has the potential to be a big drop for minimal effort. But it's effectively a lottery ticket with extra steps.

Compared to, say, direct coin creation like a cash bag (which, BTW, we're dropping a size tier and substituting for ironmen with oddments in response to feedback), a DTD's one of the more economically stable rewards we can give - at least so I've been assured.

Boss value is measured in kills/hour and bosses are balanced around being repeatedly killed, so one free kill through a throttled non-tradeable supply that requires daily engagement to acquire contributes minimally to inflation.

It's an active reward - you have to gear up and fight the boss (albeit briefly) to get the benefit, ...

I dont see you ever getting both sides to agree on that, even after our discord being in discussion for weeks (although the most vocal supporters of individual xp blocks have yet to join the server despite us inviting them multiple times so make of that what you want)

However blocking direct xp from quests/challenges is something we can all get behind and dont see a downside to (especially with the QC option)

Righto, thanks so much for that extra context!

Yea for some unknown reason, breeding a Draconic jadinko is an incredibly rare occurrence. Hopefully when you're able to, it won't be shiny! That's the longest part of the full breeding log unfortunately.

Mod Raven has repeatedly assured us it's working as intended.

But then again, he is literally the worst kind of monster.

The solution we came up with that everyone could agree on was blocking direct xp, which is experience that is not affected by bonus xp (quests/lamps/challenges,etc.).

Righto, thank you for clarifying! :)

There are also 10 HP builds who want failsafes, and don't want their combat strategies changed - they would be left out. For that reason, I think the community is just far too split on general XP toggling and I don't see it being a good use of dev time.

I did come up with a potential alternative failsafe solution (that consumes bonds, yay dev time incentive!) but I'm not confident enough in the design. I could share that also if you like.

Thank you, but no need for the bondesign at the moment. What you've got here is nice and simple, targeted and extensible. :) Appreciate you considering the dev time incentive, though!

I'll just provide some context points rather than any personal opinions.

  • We were hoping for individual skill toggles, sorry for not being clear!
  • I don't think anyone would have issues with extending that toggle to all 28 skills, we were just being mindful of development time and the vast majority of specialist builds focus on combat skills.
  • Because Direct XP only considers XP which isn't affected by Bonus XP, it's not actually a good fail safe. If I, as 1 defence, somehow accidentally check defence XP in combat settings, and I run to a boss, I'll instantly get 10 defence from one kill. The Direct XP block wouldn't have saved me as combat XP isn't direct XP.
  • i.e. It's not particularly meaningful, achievement-wise, for anyone if they have never turned on Direct XP blocking, but I don't see the harm in QC messages.

  • EDIT: One more point, we really do have to emphasize that this toggle is f...

Okay, so what if hypothetically, Nastroth's toggles didn't only block direct XP but all sources of XP? Or indeed, there was a separate toggle for direct and non-direct XP for each skill, so you could customise your build knowing you're safely spared getting XP in certain skills?

In conjunction with a way to indicate whether you're using toggles or not, would that be a beneficial change for pures? Or would that be a step in the wrong direction?

Happy to implement your proposal as-written incidentally (though if people are in disagreement with it, please say!), but just considering what would be the most positive change.

We had to remove those paths when updating quest achievements to use the new achievement system data format (as achievement paths are currently a layer on top of the old achievement system).

Ingame, you can find out similar information by going to your Adventures->Quests tab. Look for the Plague's End quest in your quest list (there's various new quest listing sorting methods in the top-left, such as alphabetical), and its requirements are shown in the overview screen.

You can click those requirement quests to jump down the requirement hierarchy and see their overview screen, and navigate through the history of quests you've clicked with the horizontal history arrows.

Alternatively, press the [show] next to Quests: here ...

JennaMechanics sent me this proposal for a way to block "direct" XP (what we internally all givexp_reward - XP given as a reward from quest lamps, minigames, daily challenges, etc, that isn't modified by bonus XP) for combat pures. https://t.co/FmY307akla?amp=1

I've got a couple follow-up questions and extra proposals.
