I assume it's not specifically about beta-testing (beta tests like e.g. a Closed Beta will be announced publicly and will have pulic sign-up phases) but playtests in general?

One good way for a chance tobe selected for playtests (which we have used for the past ones) is signing up here: https://playtest.ubisoft.com/

We're working closely with User Research Labs at Ubisoft to organise (remote and in-person) playtests, managing the surveys etc.

That sounds... not ideal. Have you put in an Ubi support ticket?

Maybe /u/Ubi-Thorlof would be able to shake some trees and see what falls out (thank you!).

Especially since on PC it is the exact opposite - it is super flexible, and you can even load and play a coop game alone (without the other player(s), save, and then load the newer save with all previous participants again!

Phew... first time I've personally heard that, but it does indeed not sound ideal. I'd still advise creating a support ticket, but I'll also see if we can investigate on this.

We'll definitely talk about the tech aspects and the PC version specifically at some later point.

When can we expect a deep dive on how you create and work on island topography maps, Thorlof? I am especially wondering about elevation and special topographical features like rivers, waterfalls, volcanoes, swamps and more. :)

Some time at the beginning of next year (exact timing TBD) we're planning to showcase the work of the Level Art team, including island shapes, rock textures - and waterfalls :D

Yes and no. We're using our own, proprietary engine for all Anno games since 1701. Since then, it has of course seen massive overhauls in terms of its toolset, the graphic technologies it supports etc. We tackled the topic about 3y ago in a DevBlog, if you want to know more: https://www.anno-union.com/devblog-the-anno-engine/

Hey Anno Community,

It’s been a week since the release of the Pirrrate Cove Pack for Anno 1800 – we couldn’t resist the urge to release it on “Talk Like A Pirate Day”. We hope you’re having a great time bringing some pirate-spirit into your settlements!

We have one more, one last, Cosmetic DLC releasing at the end of this year. It’s the end of an era for us – and we’ll have more information on this last cosmetic pack in the coming months.

Community Contest: Quest

The submission phase for our latest Community Contest ended last Sunday and we were blown away by the number of emails we received. Clearly, we struck a chord with this quest design contest!

Right now, we’re in the middle of going through all the quests we received and picking our favourites. We’ll update you, when the voting is about to start.

Thank you to everyone who participated. Amongst the ones we already went through...

Thank you

You can download a zipped layered .psd of the regular newspaper, as well as an empty one with transparent background here: https://ubi.li/jVk2W

Hope that's useful :)

This is something we could provide. Are you looking for the regular newspaper or the "special edition"?

The regular one has 3 images + a text box each, the special edition one large image and text.

Interesting post - we'd also love to hear what kind of content you'd want to see as part of a potential Collector's Edition :)

Even walls have ears in this place, so make sure not to reveal where you stashed your treasure, savvy? You might need to use some War Cannons and Nautical Rope Fence to protect it from other buccaneers.

Hey Anno Community,

We are here, once again, with a brand-new Community Contest for you! This is the second contest dedicated to Anno 117: Pax Romana, where we ask you to use your creativity and imagination to create something that will make its way into the game.

Your second quest

Whilst for the first contest we’ve asked you to sharpen your pencils and draw your own statue, this time around we challenge you to write a quest set in Albion, one of the twin provinces under your stewardship.

Just like the previous contest, you will need to follow some rules for your submission:

  • For the structure of your quest, please follow this template
  • Entries ...

Indeed, good point. That topic also came up on Discord yesterday, so, let me also clarify here:
Togas aren't Tier 2 in Albion. We just used this as an example for the blog/presentation since it fit very well with the theme (Romanization) and the Romans vs. "Barbarians" contrast in terms of clothing preferences.

Salvete Anno Community!

What happens when a Roman governor is sent to a province of the Empire? Well, you’ll be able to decide for yourself sometime later but let us already talk about it today: Let’s take a look at the “Romanization” feature!

Historical Context

Let’s start with a look at the real Roman Empire which we used as inspiration. It’s worth keeping in mind here that as with so many historical topics, historians are working with limited evidence on those ancient times.

“Romanization” is usually defined as a process of cultural integration of the people in the provinces of the Roman Empire.

But from what we know, the “Romanization” of local peoples in the provinces tended to vary quite a bit depending on location and culture. It often was a slower, indirect process but at the same time, we shouldn’t forget that the provinces themselves were usually...

Two more Cosmetic DLC are to be released for 1800, yes. Quoting from our last blog post:
"The next one is not that far off anymore, and we might have a first teaser later this month, then the full details in early September – the release-month.

The other one will be released at the end of the year and is still in development, information on that will still have to wait a little bit."

I would buy a pineapple anyway. Either we get a nice pineapple, or you can eat it yourself.

Thank you for only quoting my good answers and never my weird troll posts, much appreciated!

The island topic is something we'll also cover in a DevBlog in September with our Game Director - when talking about key gameplay pillars of an Anno game.

In short: a key aspect of Anno is space limitation. And this challenge immediately leads into another important aspects - logistics! Meaning, we have two very distinctive but clearly communicated layers/spaces to the game: one for building and one for logistics.

We consider this absolute core to the design of "Anno".
