We will absolutely not announce a new Anno game this year, not at all. Sorry.
yes but no. They definitely have A LOT to show off.
1800 was announced almost two years prior to release. By the time when the corresponding announcement of 117 was made, ~a year before release, many already played the mostly finished game in playtests and alphas/betas.
Small correction on the timing only ;)
1800 was announced in August 2017 for a release in "Winter 2018". That's a bit less than 1,5 years. Ultimately delayed to April 2019, but that was not the plan when we revealed it back then.
It's always a bad news for the quality of the game when developers spend resources on the things players don't care about.
Marketing is an essential part of game development - you have to get the word out there. And trailers remain a very important part of marketing strategies.
It's also important to keep the context of when assets are dropped: This was the reveal of our new project, the key messages (for both our existing players as well as people potentially interested) were the fantasy (be a governor, the world is your canvas, build grand cities and production chains) and the setting: ancient Rome.
Don't forget that making people aware of a game is very important, as without visibility and ultimately sales, we are not sustainable.
We love our highly engaged community, but they (not just for Anno, that applies for any game) make up only a portion of the entire playerbase - and we want to make sure as many as possible hear about Anno 117: Pax Romana.
The reception to the reveal and the trailer has been very positive, so, ultimately, I would say players do care about it ;)

Does anyone else always have trouble logging into Ubisoft services on Chrome? (no adblock running). I swear they just have the worst websites out there.
edit: Microsoft edge doesn't work either, I log in with 2FA and then I'm just met with a constant loading screen and the article still asks me to log in https://imgur.com/a/ytQylSX

Cheers, we're having a look

Yes, the livestream will be in English.
Nope, that's not the code name ;)
"Dawn of Dominion" is the name of the artwork.
Faaaaar too long for a codename, you want to go for one, maximum two words at most for internal stuff.
But feel free to guess what the actual codename is!
Hello everyone – and welcome to the Anno Union!

It did!
Brand guidelines are generally ignored by everyone bar the brand person. I mean, are the coders or artists calling it that as well?
don't tell that to the Brand team!
And no, we have an internal name, which - especially right now - makes it occasionally tricky to assure we're correctly saying "Anno 117"
I'm a bit sceptical about the new stuff with sessions - them not being forcefully interconnected. It smells like Ubisoft is pushing for Anno to be more opened and dumbed down. But we'll see. Hopefully there will be enough incentives and interconnection of product chains and needs fulfillment across different regions/sessions to even do that.
I would say: wait a bit for when we go more in-depth on those topics.
Having the option to do X doesn't mean you don't have the option to do Y. One key principle for us is player choice.
Due to the claim that you can stay in a session, I am guessing that you can build either native residences AND/OR Roman residences (as colonizers). So if you start in Albion and choose to build natively, you don't necessarily need to import from Latium, but if you want to increase Roman rule (or some mechanic) then you gotta ship that olive oil up north.
Presumably there will be a mechanic almost like eco balance (cultural balance?) that weighs Celtic residences against Roman colonizer residences and maybe you'll have rebellions if the balance is off.
Very interesting theory.
Just dropping here that if you ask our Brand Director Haye, she will tell you that the correct way would be "one hundred seventeen".
I salute you, mate, that's some fine prediction of Anno's future, be it skill, luck or sheer hope :D
I’m going to call it and say similar to Enbesa in Anno 1800, you’re going to be called to assist Egypt with a Cleopatra-esque character. There’ll be pyramids in the npc settlement. Something something Nile river as the primary water source.
The goal will involve revitalizing totally not Alexandria and like Enbesa will grant research boosts with a great library back in Latium.
I’m also just going to out on a limb here and say there’ll also be a totally not Constantinople dlc where like Cape Trelawny you get access to a huge landmass to build a super city on.
Cool theory. Here's a deal: if you're right about an "egypt" DLC in general and the features in particular, you'll get a key for it.
If not, why not write a nice poem about it?
We also think it's a great setting for an Anno game.
lol this guy called it 8 months ago
We were highly amused reading it back then!
How often do you think about the Roman Empire? Because we… we’re doing it daily!
We’re proud and excited to announce a new chapter for the Anno franchise:
Anno 117: Pax Romana!
Take on the role of a Roman governor in the year 117 AD and journey through the uncharted territories of the Roman Empire. Uncover the allure of Latium and Albion, the twin provinces under your stewardship as governor. Seize the opportunity to expand your influence and harness the unique advantages and challenges each province presents.
“We will not only deliver the fantasy millions of strategy players are waiting for: to govern one of the most iconic ancient empires, we will push beyond that, and change how people see the Roman Empire in games. Explore different province...

Who knows what we might do in the future but a good remake is not an easy thing to get right, and with the History Editions released a few years ago, there is a version of the old games out there.
