Make sure you keep up with what mods need updating. I will make a post here on Steam next week with some general instructions and it will update with known broken mods, which ones get updated and such, so you know when it's safe to load your modded city again. :)

Most mods can be removed from a save without problem, so it's just a few that you need to be able to load the save again. And they will most likely be updated - or if the creator isn't active anymore - taken over by a new modder and updated. It might just take some time.

As for assets I definitely recommend removing any you don't need. From the amount and your load time, it sounds like you are way over what your RAM can handle, which means you might have the game crash after the patch (as it adds some new content).

You don't need everything that's listed as a dependency for a building. Props and trees are always optional - they just affect how the building looks. It's totally fine to leave any ... Read more

The best place to get help is the official forums[forum.paradoxplaza.com]. When posting there try to include as much information as you can about when the game crashes, what error you get etc. And make sure to attach the files mentioned in this post[forum.paradoxplaza.com] to get the best help.

Most buildings use Ploppable RICO because they are larger than 4x4 tiles, which is the size limit for growables. Most buildings that are 4x4 or smaller are already growables, or come in growable versions too. Check the creator's workshop page to find the growable versions if you have some that are small enough to be so, but aren't.

I'm guessing we're talking about missing and failed assets reported by the Loading Screen Mod.

Missing are typically props or trees used to decorate buildings. These aren't needed for the buildings to work, but without them the buildings will not look exactly like in the screenshots. It's up to you if you want to fix these. Not having some props or trees can be a good idea to save some RAM usage. If you want to get some missing assets, the Loading Screen mod makes a handy list with links to the workshop pages - you can see where that report is saved (and change that) in Options and by finding the mod on the list on the left.

Failed assets are not working for some reason and these should be fixed. Sometimes they are buildings missing a network, that you should subscribe to for them to work, sometimes they are broken assets that should just be removed. Again the Loading Screen Mod report will show you what's wrong and if you can fix the problem.

Where do you get the error? With Steam or with the launcher?

The save keeps track of this and has a "Subscribe All" button you can use to grab all mods and assets that you had subscribed while playing that save. It does grab things you might have removed, so if you switched a mod or removed some assets you didn't use, those will still be subscribed. So if you do this, it's a good idea to have a look through things and remove anything you don't want.

Alternately you can use the output log (player.log on Mac and Linux) to find the mods used. To do this you just load the save (which might not work since you're missing mods). Then you open the log and find a list... Read more

Then you want Move It's "Allign in place" option. Next to the selection tools there's a little arrow, which will open another little menu, which is where you find the options to allign.

I'm aware. I just find that explaining that can make things more confusing, since unlocking the DLC content stills feels like adding a bunch of new buildings. And you aren't loading them if you don't have the DLC anyways, so for things like RAM usage it still practically works like adding them to the game. :)

Alright people, let's quit the insults and attempts to provoke each other. Feel free to discuss the game and things you wish were different, but disagreeing is not an excuse for going off on each other.

I can't remember if there's a guide, but it's similar to how you would update. When uploading you click the little folder icon, which opens where the preview image is and where the file you're uploading is. Then you just copy in the other items you want to include in the pack and upload like normal.

Depends on what you mean by "align props" - are you trying to align a prop to something else (like another prop or a building)? Or something different?

If it is running out of RAM, then increasing the pagefile to 16 or 32 GB will do the trick yes.

Cities: Skylines doesn't do this, since the version of the game is the same regardless of what DLCs you might have. The changes happen when the free patch is released along each DLC release, and that moves everyone's game to the next version with all the changes.

This is what makes mods either work or not work, no matter what DLCs you might have. And it is also who it's super easy to just add DLCs on as you go no matter what order they came in or how long ago they were relea... Read more

This is a bug in the launcher that will be fixed. It is supposed to remember that you accepted the agreement, but it isn't working right for some people. Annoying, but just a temporary thing we have to deal with.

No, props are decorative and don't really do anything. At most they can have cars parked (like parking lots) or people sitting on them (like benches).

If people can live in something, it is a building for sure.

This guide also covers a lot of the words you will meet on the workshop and explain the differences.

My best guess would be you're running out of RAM. 8 GB should be enough for just the basegame, but with stuff running in the background, that might be it. Did you have a popup mentioning a folder (numbers as the name)? That will have log files that can tell us what caused the crash.
