Hey Prospectors!

There’s been a lot of moments to celebrate since launch. We peaked at 52,501 concurrent players during our opening weekend, something we’re truly proud of and very thankful for.

A humbling amount of hours have been invested on the surface of Icarus, with many of you completing numerous missions and developing some incredible characters. Some of you have racked up hundreds of hours, with 5,813,573 hours played in total!

A big thanks to our streamers also, over 4.3 million hours of Icarus have been watched across Twitch[www.twitch.tv] and YouTube since launch.

We gathered some of our favourite clips for the first Community Highlights video since launch. Thank you to everyone who has share... Read more

At the end of our launch weekend we promised you that we’d spend this week improving performance, making connecting with friends and servers more reliable, squashing bugs as well as adding content.

We had a strong start with a peak of over 50,000 concurrent players last weekend and our servers have stayed busy all week since. However, we also heard the feedback about performance and stability from many of you and have been simultaneously focused on rapid fixes and new content.

Today’s Big Updates
We’ve dropped more content and fixes in time for the weekend. Scroll to the bottom of this post to see all of today’s and this week’... Read more

For us this has been an amazing and full-on launch weekend - full of both highs and lows.

We had over 50,000 concurrent players on Sunday, up there alongside other popular Steam games like Dead by Daylight, Terraria and ARK.

However, many people have let us know in the reviews that the game just didn’t work well enough for them to enjoy it - and that’s not good enough for us. If people couldn’t connect or run the game with acceptable performance to even try the game out, then we need to remedy that.

Targeting daily updates Through launch weekend we produced three hotfixes immediately to address some of the key bugs that had presented with the launch. Through our first week we will be continuing this process and aiming for daily updates.

These updates can disrupt your time playing the game but... Read more

Long Update Validation Times Regrettably, some users experience long periods of "validation" after Steam has downloaded even a small update. This is not to do with the download size but is due to how the Unreal Engine data is packaged and how Steam’s updates are distributed. We're talking with Steam and Epic about ways to improve this. We will limit our updates to important fixes and not do them too regularly, although in our launch week we plan to do them almost daily.

Verify your Updated Files to prevent crashes After you update the game, use the "Verify Game Files" option to check your game files. A number of players are reporting Steam did not correctly apply the updates, causing their game to crash. Please note we have no control over how Steam applies updates. We have reached out to Valve about the issue.

Step 1:

We need to push another update to help those players who are having issues seeing their friends game in the "Join Prospect" screen, as well as those wanting to play in offline while using steam in offline mode.

About the game Updates
Regrettably, some users experience long periods of "validation" after steam has downloaded an update for ICARUS. This is due to how the game engine data is packaged, and steams updates are distributed. While the download can be quite small, the whole game needs to be validated to apply the change.

We are trying to keep the updates to big pushes, and not do them too often, but when we have found serious bugs we want to get people up and running the game as fast as possible. Unfortunately this can result in some disruption - so we will do our best to only do updates as often as we absolutely need to.

Some of our Known Issues (not exhaustive)
  • Progress in Offline mode is not serializing ...

We are focused on being just as responsive as we were during the beta weekends now we have transitioned into a live game. We have big plans with what we want to do, but these require us to continue to fix the game and implement things - and we appreciate the community help in doing this.

A new breed of prospectors – the First Cohort – were drawn to rumors of an extraordinary discovery...

Trailblazers and treasure seekers from a dozen backgrounds, they sold up from Earth and Mars before setting out on the journey to Icarus. Arriving on the scarred, yet strangely familiar alien world, many asked whether they had made the right decision. But by this point, there was no turning back.

The earliest to land on Icarus, the First Cohort were granted mining licenses in its Earth-like zones, where natural resources could be harvested to boost their chances of survival and success.

Many of the First Cohort were already in space when the United Development Agency advertised – as close to covertly as was legally possible – for ‘contractors’. Others sold up on Earth and rode the newly-open... Read more
