For this update we wanted to start laying the foundation for some big upcoming changes to the talents system, including adding a respec feature next week.

One of the biggest requests we've had since launch was for more Talent Points. We've approached this in two ways:

  1. We have straight up increased the Talent Points cap from level 40 to level 50, giving each character an extra 12 Talent Points. You can now gain 60 Talent Points, up from the previous limit of 48.
  2. We've also split Solo Talent Tree Points into their own group which means you're no longer spending your main Talent Points on Solo Talents.
We're hoping this should alleviate concerns about not being able to unlock enough talents for a single character, whilst still encouraging you to create specialized characters and avoiding any one character being all-powerful.

This week’s update includes two of the Top Five most-requested community suggestions from Feature Upvote[icarus.featureupvote.com] - a separate light slot and inventory sorting - along with significant amount of bugfixes.

One of the highly-requested features we’re happy to bring you is a light slot on your prospector, so no more having to switch between your torch and pickaxe in caves or between lantern and weapons when venturing out at night. There’s also a new Tier 4 Titanium Hammer, footprints and impressions that might help you find things in the snow and sand, a new sorting option in your inventory and a separate backpack slot.

Week Ten brings a range of bug fixes, along with a new Deep Mining system and improvements to Talents. Have a look at our two key updates for the week, along with more detailed patch notes below.



Deep Ore Mining Drill


This patch introduces a new way to gather resources - Deep Mining Drills - which you set up over mineral deposits of Gold, Copper, Iron and other ores found on the floors of larger caves.

In addition to bug fixes and optimizations, most of our updates this week are user-experience themed with changes to consumables, the prospect selection screen and mission art.

Look out for highlights on prospects that define them as ‘insured drops’, a feature that guarantees your prospector's safety in the case of them missing their leaving window. You’ll also notice some new items on the loading screens.

As promised last week, not only do we tell you when you can skip the intro video but there is now a settings menu option to skip it (a black screen will be displayed while the game loads).

Our focus this week is on updating Icarus' map, along with some several gameplay balance changes.

This includes a whole bunch of much-requested fixes ranging from fish and mushroom availability to optimizing performance-heavy environment assets. Several holes in the map have been patched up. Most issues with collision volumes on rocks in caves being bigger than the rock itself should now be fixed, removing frustrating instances where some mineral deposits could not be mined. Plus, there are now more voxels in caves for you to mine.

As the Icarus team's planning for 2022 continues, this week we've taken a break from adding new missions to get a bunch of new items into the workshop. You'll find a lot of new options to take in your dropship load-outs that let you choose how you want to tackle a mission.

Inaris Tools
The Inaris manufacturing consortium has introduced full new set of tools for Icarus prospectors, including Axe, Pickaxe, Spear, Knife and Arrows.

Showing their heritage in the mining industry, Inaris’s products have a weighty, industrial look to them. They're designed for durability as you'd expect of products used far from Earth where repair and replacement are difficult if not impossible.

With everyone back at work for the year we've been undertaking a whole lot of planning, detailing what we'll be focused on now that the post-release rush and holidays are out of the way. For now, we're excited to be bringing you another mission update, with a new one to enjoy over the weekend, some hardcore variants, and a new concept that changes how we view perma-death on early drops.

STATION-TO-STATION:Extended Survey A new mission is here! Jump in and complete another contract for the UDA, with options for standard and hardcore mode available to relaxed and experienced prospectors.
We have also added a hardcore variation for BIGSHOT: Hardcore Stockpile, giving you a new challenge to face as you build your legacy.

This week’s new missions include a stockpile mission that has you collecting a set of animal trophies, a long survey mission in the Canyons biome and the usual assortment of fixes and improvements (especially to cable/wire handling). With most of the team returning to work next week, we'll be hard at work planning so expect more news in the near future!

This week’s new missions include another of our stockpile missions, popular with farmers and resource gatherers, plus a Hardcore mission to repair a broken dropship. Beware: on Hardcore missions, respawn pods are not available. As always, we've included several fixes and improvements for good measure.

Continuing our pattern of regular content updates, our two new prospects encourage you to leave the safety of your base and traverse Icarus’ wilderness. One is accessible earlier in the game while the other suits more experienced characters equipped to weather the worst storms.

Earlier this week we restored over 60'000 characters that were left behind on prospects after time ran out. This could be due to players not realizing that Icarus’ mission timer counts down in real time or cases where bugs and server issues preventing them from leaving in time.
