Because Outriders has that.

But you believing that it doesn't exist kind of underlines the point I'm trying to make - that there are systems in play, but they are not obvious or are working in ways that make them appear to not exist. Or perhaps they're malfunctioning under certain circumstances, but because players don't know how they're supposed to work, it makes triaging issues around them almost impossible.

By talking a bit more about them (without blowing the lid off completely), we can ensure everyone gets on the same page.

My guess? The same reason other live services don't; engagement and retention are more valuable than customer experience. Drop rates as a rate were not nerfed in the demo.

We changed the chest loot cave to a quest run to make farming more fun instead of it being a mindless chest run.

The demo was also a single area, with a small set of items, making it easier to understand what was/wasn't working. Drop rates for the entire game is a very different proposition.

Legendary Drop Rates aren't just a single digit that is bumped.

Some players may think that there is just a single percentage that we are stoically refusing to nudge. That's not the case.

Consider this for example:

When someone says that "drop rates suck", what do they mean? YOU know what that may mean for you personally, but does your opinion overlap with everyone else? With a majority? With a minority? With X percentage? With Reddit?

Here's a list of things that "drop rates are bad" could mean, and bear in mind that every single answer would have a different improvement method:

  • Does it mean players are not getting enough drops overall?
  • Does it mean players are not getting enough drops in a certain location/expedition?
  • Does it mean players are not getting enough drops at CT15?
  • Does it mean players are not getting enough drops at CT14/13/12... etc.?
  • Does it mean players are not getting enough drops in...

Agreed - However, I felt I needed to put that note in there so that we dont see a slew of "the devs have stopped communicating" and "the game is abandoned" by Tuesday morning.

Not at all - I wasn't at all implying that players feelings are invalid. That wasn't the intent.

As you've specifically mentioned Expeditions: A discussion around legendaries drop rates needs to extend beyond expeditions. And it needs to be detailed about a number of gameplay aspects.

This is why a "one size answer" doesn't really make sense unless you better understand how everything works together.

But I think there is More to it then just damage mitigation that was messed up.

I think the issue left to be fixed now is:

1) The one shot mechanic

2) Enemies doing random high damage. Even trash NPC's. One second you can tank 3+ hits other times your cant. It seems to happen after your trigger the cooldown for the one shot prevention mechanic.

Trying to hit a frozen target with Impale will fail. If Its the only enemy in range it will fail to find a target, if there are multiple and only one is frozen it will hit everything except the frozen target. This makes group play with an Impale focused build like mine extremely difficult, especially when running with a Technomancer.

Bleed Fails to Apply, Sometimes

BY a very rough guesstimation it feels like around 30-40% of the time Impale will not apply the Bleed status. As my build is Impale focused and stacks a LOT of extra damage vs bleeding targets this can ruin expedition runs for me.

If you want any video proof I can pull some or create some pretty easily. lmk

You mention wanting a full picture, but in no way have you described what the additional context actually offers.

The previous gameplay would let us see whether the game's inbuilt oneshot/death-prevention mechanics triggered and then went onto cooldown/were on cooldown at time of death (which is normal), or whether they never procc'd at all (which would be unintended behaviour).

A few of these things will be covered in my known issues list tomorrow, for others I'm having the team check through our database (JIRA) if they have anything similar on file, or if they are able to reproduce the issue you've mentioned in particular.

As a final question - what language do you play in? I assume it's English as you mentioned US and South Africa but I wanted to double-check as our April 30th patch clarified the set description on the Borealis Monach in English, but other languages still need to be fixed as well. So knowing whether you're reading it in English or not-English will give me a better understanding of what issue you're seeing.

I always presumed it was armour that would help mitigate the damage bug as it was physical attacks, can you confirm if certain attacks are maybe dealing anomoly damage? That might be where abit of confusion from the players is coming from.

Good to get some context, thank you very much! I'm actually talking to the team to see if I can pull together a survivibility guide to help explain some of the more nebulous mechanics, included which damage source does what. If I'm able to put that out, I think it may go a long way in explaining to people why they might be dying (perhaps because their build isn't ideal for the damage source).

Once everyone has an understanding of that, we can actually get a better understanding of what is a true issue and what is people being underspecc'd and not using damage prevention mechanics properly (because the mechanics are so hard to understand without a guide).
