Ernie D said: I just bought Stellaris, I have yet to play it on my desktop game rig, because it hangs up right here every time, I've done every suggested idea so far. It however works on my gaming laptop without issue, specs are nearly identical between the two, except my antivirus, which Ive added exceptions on my desktop and still doesnt help
Your problem is unrelated to the one in this thread as that is caused by mods, and you presumably have none in use as yet. In future please make your own thread rather than "me too" someone else's . Thanks.

This is certainly caused by having lots of mods. I don't think there's anything you personally can do aside from unsubscribing from any you don't need.

You could mention this to the launcher developers here:

New launcher version : 2020.14

Let's try forcing an update of the launcher.

Download the installer package for Windows: https://forumcontent.paradoxplaza.com/emailsignatures/2020.14-win-prod.zip

Unpack the file you just downloaded and place the three files in the Steam folder for the game you're having issues with. If asked if you want to replace already existing files click "yes" - that's a sign you are in the right place!

Then please repeat the launcher reinstall procedure from before.

Good luck with that!

Are those people with the wrong checksum in debug mode perhaps? Aside from a corrupted installation or enabled mods, there's nothing else that can cause this really.

This is usually caused by either mods that have not been updated to work with the 2.8 patch, or hardware plugged into the computer such as game controllers or joysticks.

Do either of those apply here?

The only other possibility is running the game at a lower resolution.

Dobbstown said: Man, I am in the same spot. I've tried everything on the internet and haven't found a fix. This is a new install and I can't get the game to launch, crashes every time. Attached are the files I've found, hopefully my social and home address aren't buried in there somewhere. Couldn't find the system log....
My first suggestion was to put the game in borderless display mode, but yours is still in fullScreen. please try borderless, it's a common issue.

You shouild also update that nVidia driver:

If you like, but as you are still subscribed to them they should come down like before.

Sorry I missed that.

1. Find the file "dlc_load.json", located in \Documents\Paradox Interactive\Stellaris

2. Right click it and select Edit (this can be done in any text editor)

3. To disable DLCs, add them to the "disabled_dlcs" list

For example if you want to disable Fredmans Midsummer Epistles and the Sabaton soundtrack, this is what your file should look like:

{
"disabled_dlcs":["dlc/dlc065_fredmans_midsummer_epistles/dlc065.dlc","dlc/dlc052_sabaton_soundtrack/dlc052.dlc"],
"enabled_mods":["mod/ugc_1792575623.mod"]
}

You can disable them in the Steam Manage My DLCs page in this game's entry in your Steam Library.

In the game launcher please set Display mode to Borderless.

IF that doesn't help, Has the game ever run successfully on this computer? Or never?

IF IT USED TO RUN:
Please do a full **clean** re-install:

- move any valued save games elsewhere, and user_empire_designs.txt from /Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/ if you have made any custom empires or races.
- "uninstall" in Steam-Stellaris
- manually delete both the Steam/SteamApps/common/Stellaris AND Documents/Paradox/Stellaris folders
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.
- add stellaris.exe to the exceptions list of your antivirus app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add it to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list.
- start the game with no mods active and test

In particular you need to make sure there are no files or folders left under either the Steam Stellaris or Documents Stellaris locations, before... Read more

Hello there, thanks for your report. Please ensure that you have no mods installed (if you do, disable them and try running the game) if the issues persists. Please try a fresh install including removing all existing files from the install directory.

Please let me know the results of these steps :)

Yes, Steam updates mods automatically too.

Most likely the mods you are using are not updated to work with 2.8 yet.
