I thought I remembered a problem like this years ago but I can't find it now.

Is this only when you make a new race by editing? If you pick an alternative race at game start does that work okay for you?

When editing a race are you clicking on Based on Government or Custom for the voice? Does clicking on the voice options on the right change voices okay?

This thread is old, the current launcher version is 2020.14 . Probably best to start a new thread with problem details and history, thanks.

STORMgalaxy said: I don't know why these methods sometimes work and completely stop working, but I have ruled out that it is not a mod issue but rather an issue with the game.
I can see this might be the game or the launcher, which are separate apps with different development teams. Do you have a feel for which of those might be the issue?

Essentially launcher 2020.14 came out ~2 weeks ago, game patch 2.8 a week ago - which of those did the onset of the problem coincide with, do you know?

Looking at your attachment again (and the file), I think notepad++ is getting confused here due to line 1108 - it's a line with an opening bracket, but it's commented out - yet the bracket highlighting is still taking it into account.

Hi,

Could you please supply a save where this is easily reproducable? That would be most helpful.

Please do a full **clean** re-install:

- move any valued save games elsewhere, and user_empire_designs.txt from /Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/ if you have made any custom empires or races.
- "uninstall" in Steam-Stellaris
- manually delete both the Steam/SteamApps/common/Stellaris AND Documents/Paradox/Stellaris folders
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.
- add stellaris.exe to the exceptions list of your antivirus app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add it to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list.
- start the game with no mods active and test

In particular you need to make sure there are no files or folders left under either the Steam Stellaris or Documents Stellaris locations, before installing again.

If that doesn't help:

What i mean is, is the game image cut off on the right side? Even a few missing pixels could cause this I think.

Please try the following:

- unsubscribe from all mods
- delete the folder Documents/paradox/Stellaris/mod/
- delete the file Documents/paradox/Stellaris/mods_registry.json
- delete the file Documents/paradox/Stellaris/launcher-v2.sqlite
- subscribe to a few mods
- run the game up and see if mods are now available to you.

I hope that does it for you!

In the Documents/paradox/stellaris folder, please delete the folders shadercache and cache, and let the game rebuild them. Does that help?

If not you can test moving the user_empire_designs.txt file out of there too.

Could it be the right edge fo the game is slightly off the monitor? Is anything cut off over there?

How long did you leave it? I have a couple of other reports that when more than a small number of mods are enabled this game can take a long time to load now.

I've now seen another report of modest numbers of mods taking a long time to load with this game now. Whether this is a game or a launcher issue I'm not sure but I'd incline to the launcher.

Actually your launcher is up to date now, on 2020.14 , so that update error is bogus. I think you can ignore it from here on.

Thanks for the report, we can reproduce this issue on our end and we've logged it.

Hi! Thank you very much for the report.

Could you please attach a save with the error present?

DXDIAG is a program you run from a command prompt or the Windows start menu 'run' dialog box (or 'search programs' in Windows 7 or later). After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Please attach your Documents/Paradox/Stellaris/settings.txt and pdx_settings.txt .
From your Documents/Paradox/Stellaris/logs/ folder, attach system.log , error.log

Fungineer said: when launching with mods enabled, it just hangs at the splash screen and doesn't do anything.

Observations:
loads with no mods enabled
enabling even one causes the hang

attempted fixes
All display modes attempted.
installed latest drivers.
adjusted settings.txt
adjusted load order and cleared cache.
reinstalled game and launcher
Have these mods all been updated to work with the 2.8 game patch?

What launcher version do you see?
