That doesn't sound like Intel have taken the issue onboard ... !

Do you have any links on that on, say, the Intel support site? Thanks!

We see some AppHang events in Stellaris in that file, plus two unrelated crashes in it too. Not good!

My best guess is there is a Windows, driver or hardware issue here, which either has been tripped off by recent Stellaris updates OR happened between when you first played this game and it was okay, and first had this problem. Did you have BD back then when it worked okay too?

If you have any overclocking enabled, disable it for diagnostic purposes.

Try this Windows repair tool

Use the System File Checker tool to repair missing or c...

If this is an issue caused by a Windows update, it's really beyond me to fix. That said, we'd expect more than just your one report if that was the case!

Does this also affect CK2, EU4, and HOI4?

That is not shown in the settings.txt you attached - are you sure you did that after your re-install?

That's not what is shown in the settings files you sent in. Please make those changes and keep them there while we work on this. And ONLY test with a galaxy that's never had any mods used in it, thanks.

You may as well update that nVidia driver to August 2023

No obvious cause of that problem in there. The Exceptions logs call out the physical file system though; my guess is the crashes are happening while trying to write out a save file or a log update.

What antivirus app do you use? Make sure stellaris.exe is in all its exceptions lists.

And, when did this first happen?

DXDIAG is a program you run from the Windows search box on the task bar. After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

It is possible it is corrupted, as you say. If so there's probably nothing that can be done about it - uncorrupting a computer file is like unscrambling an egg!

It is also possible it is a late game bug, so if it has never had any mods used in it, you could make a new thread in Bug Reports and attach the save file there for QA to look into.

Sorry for that problem, whatever the cause!

I have not seen other similar reports, as yet anyway.

Do you know what changed in your system to cause this? A Window, AMD or other update?

Right-click on stellaris.exe, properties, compatibility. Tick "disable fullscreen optimizations" untick every other box in that dialog, Apply, and exit.
Then in the launcher Game Settings menu, select the fullScreen display mode, Vsync off, refresh rate 60 .

If that doesn't help:

Disabling mods does not remove effects they have already had on the save game file.
Do you also get this in a galaxy that's never had any mods used in it?

If so, how are you determining your crash is related to that particular error? It is quite common for lines in error.log to show cosmetic errors.

You may have to use free utilities like Ccleaner and Revo Uninstaller to make sure all mention of the launcher is gone, including from the registry, before re-installing.

good luck!

Eogen said: A less draconian approach can be to "verify integrity of game files" through steam. This will check for any missing files.
Only files that Steam put there. Files that the game created under the Documents folder will NOT be fixed by this, you need to do the full clean reinstall as I described.

Ah, that is usually an antivirus app getting in the way. What antivirus app do you use? You need to make sure all these apps are in its exceptions lists:

stellaris.exe and dowser.exe (in the Steam stellaris folder)
C:/users/{username}/AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2.2023.9/paradox launcher.exe
C:/users/{username}/AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/bootstrapper-v2.exe

IF that doesn't help, also set each of those .exe files (EXCEPT stellaris.exe !) to run as the Windows Admin user.

Then the game should run from Steam/our launcher, and enable all the DLCs.

Choconaute_ said: First problem is that the launcher is very slow to load. It needs something like 1 minute of loading time.
Having a lot of mods can do that. How many mods are you subscribed to?

All those games use the same installation of the same launcher, so it is indeed a puzzle why only this game has a database problem. Please try the following:

- unsubscribe from all mods in BOTH the Steam Workshop and the Paradox mod site mods.paradoxplaza.com
- delete the folder Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/mod/

Are you using Steam MP or Nakama (ie "cross store") MP? If the latter this is a sporadic problem with some users accessing the Nakama service; a VPN is one workaround.

Others are:

Disable IPv6
- Close CK3
- Go to Control Panel > View Network status and tasks > Change adapter settings (left side)
- Find your Hamachi Connection and Disable it
- Find your Internet connection adapter (for me, it was WiFi)
- Right click your internet adapter and select properties
- Scroll down to find "Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) and uncheck the box
- Select Ok
- Start up CK3 and should work.

Disable all other network adapters
Go to Windows Control panel.
Click on Network & Internet.
Click on View Network Status.
Quick Tip: You can also quickly access these settings by right-clicking the network icon in the taskbar and selecting the Network & Internet settings option.

SimonDarksideJ said: Because on BOTH steam and Windows, they BOTH use the paradox launcher to launch the game, which makes it doubly odd that you cannot simply use the launcher standalone.
When run from Steam the launcher is run in a Steam-compatible mode as a true launcher, its purpose then is so you can select mods and DLCs.

When run standalone it is effectively a client, not a launcher, IOW a completely separate mode of operation. It's purpose then is to do game installs, apply patches, etc.

It is the choice of each development tea... Read more

SimonDarksideJ said: Is there some reason that Paradox's own launcher is so out of date with Stellaris.
Yes, there is: this game is no longer supported on that platform. The devs made that decision some time ago, I'm afraid.

You'll need to play it fromm Steam from now on.
