There are three crashes in stellaris.exe in that dxdiag, each unrelated to the rest, and an AppHang. That's not a good sign! That would normally mean a hardware problem, in CPU or memory.

Have you checked into those things?

If this is reproducible from a given save file, AND no mods have ever been used in taht galaxy, it is almost certainly a game bug.

But if you have access to a Windows machine you might try it on that - there are occasionally Mac-only bugs.

If that doesn't help, please make a new thread in Bug Reports:

Right-click on stellaris.exe, properties, compatibility. Tick "disable fullscreen optimizations" untick every other box in that dialog, Apply, and exit.
Then in the launcher Game Settings menu, select the fullScreen display mode, Vsync off, refresh rate 60

If that doesn't help:
DXDIAG is a program you run from the Windows search box on the task bar. After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Please attach here your Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/settings.txt and pdx_settings.txt .
From your Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/logs/ folder, attach here system.log , error.log , exceptions.log

As you can see above this user's issue fixed itself 2 years ago. So it was not a game problem then (most likely ISP), and will not be related to your issue.

This is the kind of reason why we ask people to NOT re-open old threads, they are almost always unrelated issues.

Can either you or your friend play okay with ... Read more

I see we are back in borderless windowed mode - I take it that settings does not affect the problem?

There is a slightly newer nVidia driver now, may as well try that

Then it seems the issue is that our launcher is having trouble accessing the .local/share/Paradox\ Interactive/Stellaris/ folder. You may need Linux help with diagnosing what could be causing that!

You could try just renaming the Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/settings.txt file.

I don't understand your problem, I am sorry. Can you explain in other words, in more detail, please?

I see; usually Linux users are pretty tech-savvy as there's a lot of manual stuff they need to do like that, often!

You are mixing up two separate folders, the one I listed was for the game's text and save game files, it is NOT where the game itself is installed. But it is access to that folder by the game, launcher or both that is your problem, I think.

To find the place where you installed the amne itself right click on this game in your Steam Library, manage, browse local folders. That is where you run that command.

You say you don't use mods but there's a mod error in that log - are you 100% sure they are all disabled in the launcher?

Alicebis said: I tried everything from dx9 to dx12 and it didn't solve the issue.
Those logs show DX9 in use. The game does not use DX12 (so I don't know how you could have tried that?), but we should try DX11.
In your Steam Library right-click on this game and choose Properties. In the Launch Options line, paste this in there:
-dx11

If that doesn't change anything, I can only guess this is a ... Read more

If the launcher and game do not get good access to your Documents folder ( .local/share/Paradox\ Interactive/Stellaris/ ), you'll get these errors. This really seems like a Linux User permissions issue.

In a terminal command line session, navigate to the Steam/Stellaris folder and run ./stellaris manually. Does it start up that way? If not, what output do you see there?

  • And also remove the paradox launcher from Apps / Add Remove Programs - you may well have multiple copies.

Then also ensure you are removing

- C:/users//AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/
- C:/users//AppData/Local/Paradox Interactive/
- C:/users//AppData/Roaming/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2/

:)
You've provided Windows-specific advice but the OP is on Linux, FYI.   ...

What if you make a new Windows user and log into it with that, do you get the same issue when the launcher tries to install then?

The standalone Paradox Launcher only shows Steam/Paradox games.

You need to install and play this game via the Xbox app.

All the best!

That means your original problem was probably blocked Steam MP ports:

In our launcher Game Settings menu, choose Cross store MP. All your opponents will have to do the same, if on Steam.

Is that any better?

Make a new Windows user on this machine and log into it with that. Go into the Windows Startup settings and disable everything you can, and reboot. Does it still happen?

If so, is there any overclocking active on this machine? If so try undoing that.

I was waiting for you to post on the results of the driver update you were going to do. I guess that did not help?

Does this happen right from the start of a new galaxy, or only in mid or late game play?

Does the size of galaxy matter?
