I've just installed and successfully run Stellaris 3.9.3 on my Ubuntu 22.04.1 installation, even though it's a VM and so doesn't have a supported video system.

The two stack traces above are completely different - one in Libc, one in the Steam overlay apparently, so I suspect they have unrelated causes. Try disabling the Steam overlay as a start.

AND if you are using the flatpack Steam or any other such thing, try the properly Steam client instead:

Pretty clearly a game bug, so please make a new thread in Bug Reports and attach that save file there for QA to look into. Thanks!

If this galaxy was started under a previous game version, it may be a version compatibility issue. Try reverting to that older version and load the last save that version wrote - any better?

Please do a full **clean** re-install:

- move any valued save games elsewhere, and user empire designs.txt from /Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/ if you have made any custom empires or races.
- "uninstall" in Steam-Stellaris
- manually delete both the Steam/SteamApps/common/Stellaris AND Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris folders - In particular you need to make sure there are no files or folders left under either the Steam Stellaris or Documents Stellaris locations, before installing again.
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.
- add stellaris.exe to the exceptions list of your antivirus app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add it to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list.

THEN Right-click on stellaris.exe, properties, compatibility. Tick "disable fullscreen optimizations" untick every other box in that dialog, Apply, and exit.
Then in the ... Read more

If you mean the Paradox launcher this game uses, it is not at all outsourced, it is written by a Paradox employee.

Please report the temperatures of your CPU and video (GPU)
1/ before starting the game up and
2/ after say 30 minutes' play.
If your PC's vendor has given you no way of reading temperatures, install

JebMan12 said: I just downloaded the game from Xbox Game Pass. After turning it on in the launcher it starts loading and gets stuck on 79%. I've tried clean booting, turning on compatibility mode
for "Stellaris\Content/stellaris.exe", verifying the game files, and switching to window mode in the launcher game settings. I don't have any DLC or mods. Also, I played this game about half a year ago and it worked well without crashing, this problem arose after I reinstalled it recently.

This game is not supported on the standalone Paradox launcher, which was only ever meant for non-Steam users anyway.

Having bought a Steam edition you'll have to play it from Steam, I'm afraid!

Any mods in use?

Is this just in one galaxy, or any one you try?

That is a known issue and a workaround has been posted. The launcher does not have any malware - it is not a virus.

if this is an unmodded galaxy, this is very likely a game bug - possibly a Mac-only one.

In that case please make a new thread in Bug Reports here, and attach the affected save game file for QA to look into.

Sorry for that problem!

Do you still get exactly that bad DLL message liek before? Because what we just did ought to have fixed that for sure; in particular that exact file would need to have been deleted from BOTH folders, before running dxsetup.exe

If somehow you do get that same error, I'm afraid you'll very likely need to do at least a Windows reset, or clean wipe and reinstall, to fix up DX9 - MS do not provide any utility for fixing it.

Note I'm on leave until November after today.

That error shows you have a DirectX 9 problem.

Please go into these two folders:
C:\Windows\SysWOW64\
C:\Windows\System32\

Delete all files that fit the pattern d3dx9_??.dll in both those folders; usually about 20 in each. Then go here:

What happens if you run stelllariis.exe direct from file explorer, any Windows error show?

If not, Right-click on stellaris.exe, properties, compatibility. Tick "disable fullscreen optimizations" untick every other box in that dialog, Apply, and exit.
Then in the launcher Game Settings menu, select the fullScreen display mode, Vsync off, refresh rate 60

If that doesn't help:
DXDIAG is a program you run from the Windows search box on the task bar. After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Please attach here your Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/settings.txt and pdx_settings.txt .
From your Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/logs/ folder, attach here system.log , error.log , exceptions.log   ...
