No real idea then ... what if you make a new Windows user and log into Windows with that? Do you get the same problem?

No mention of stellaris.exe in that dxdiag. What happens if you run it manually from File Explorer, any Windows error show then?

Our similar game Crusader Kings 2 is free to play on Steam now, does it work or have a similar problem?

This pretty much has to be a game bug I'm afraid. Please make a new thread in Bug Reports and attach the save game there, for QA to look into.

As far as repairing your save file goes, that's not a service we offer here officially. Some kind soul might try it for you of course! The good folks over in User Mods are probably best placed to do so.

Sorry for that problem!

Do you end up with the same checksum in the MP lobby screen as your friends do?

And, can you test with the Cross Store MP option in the launcher's Game Settings menu?

You haven't done everything I suggested here, the refresh rate is set to 170 still and you are in borderless mode:

DXDIAG is a program you run from the Windows search box on the task bar. After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

You are having a communications problem. Make sure all these apps are allowed through all your firewalls

dowser.exe (in the Steam Stellaris folder)
C:/users/{username}/AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2.2021.8.2/paradox launcher.exe
C:/users/{username}/AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/bootstrapper-v2.exe

IF that doesn't help, also set each of those .exe files (EXCEPT Stellaris.exe !) to run as the Windows Admin user.

As it seems you realise, the fps as such is not very important once it's over about 20 or 30. Obviously the stuttering is an issue.

Has this always been the case since you've had this game? Or it was okay up to some point?

Does the size of the galaxy you play make any difference?

Does it happen right from the start, or only in mid or late game play?

Is this only happening on speed 5, or lower speeds?

Right click on stellaris.exe , properties, compatibility. Tick "disable fullScreen optimisations" untick every other box in that dialog, Apply and exit.
Then unload GeForce Experience if loaded.
Then in the launcher Game Settings menu, select fullScreen display mode, Vsync off, then cap the refresh rate at 60.

If that doesn't help:

I moved your previous identical thread to the User Mods forum, as we cannot help with modded games here.

Hopefully the mod experts there can help you.

That is not a Paradox game so we cannot help you here, sorry. Contact the developer or publisher of that game.

That sounds like a file access issue. Doe sit only affect this game, what about EU4 that uses the same launcher?

What antivirus app do you use? You need to make sure all these apps are in its exceptions lists:

stellaris.exe and dowser.exe (in the Steam Stellaris folder)
C:/users/{username}/AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2.2023.5/paradox launcher.exe
C:/users/{username}/AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/bootstrapper-v2.exe

IF that doesn't help, also set each of those .exe files (EXCEPT stellaris.exe !) to run as the Windows Admin user.

What if you host a game, does that work normally?

Do check that all Steam ports are open (NOT forwarded, open) in all your firewalls:

I have no idea what could cause that, I'm sorry! A weird one.

Has this game always been like that, or it was okay up to some point?

If you are all on Steam you'll be using Steam MP. In our launcher's Game Settings menu select Cross Store MP (all players will need to do this) - do you get the same problem then?

There are problems with Gamepass CK3 not loading mods, but I wasn't aware it affected this game too.

You could try the workarounds discussed in this thread though:

That might coincide with the latest game update. If you revert to 3.6.1 in the Steam betas tab for this game, does it still happen?

No obvious cause in those files. There isn't even a game crash or system reboot recorded in dxdiag, so this is very likely due to something outside the game.

Make sure you unload GeForce Experience before starting the game.

Has it always been the case with this game, or it was okay up to some point?

If you run stellaris.exe directly from File Explorer does the same thing happen?

If you have any of our similar games CK2, EU4 or HOI4, does it happen with them too? If you have none of those CK2 is free to play on Steam now.

Just after the next such reboot, check the Windows Event viewer. Is there any ERROR or WARNING just before the reboot, recorded in there?
