Don't run it as the Admin user, that's not necessary.

In the Windows Control Panel.

What happens if you run stellaris.exe directly from File Explorer? Do you see any Windows error then?

We see some crashes in nVidia modules now, which were not there before . Let's clear those up:

- uninstall the nVidia driver and all other nVidia software
- reboot
- install March 2023 https://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us
- reboot again

I've fixed my installation by uninstalling the game from the previous default location c:\program files\windowsapps\ , and installing it under one of the the offered options D:\Xbox Apps\ (I'm pretty sure C:\XboxGames would work too). Most likely the launcher has an issue accessing c:\program files\windowsapps\ , which MS do lock down pretty hard, and I guess they've learned that lesson and moved the games to somewhere accessible by normal users.

Although why only this game seemed to be affected I have no idea.

Also, for anyone with this same issue, if you check the installation directory for Stellaris there's a Stellaris application file, if you run that it should skip the launcher, does that start the game?

Hmmm that error looks like this would solve: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us...-or-file-46361133-47ed-6967-c13e-e75d3cc29657

Can you work your way through that and see if anything makes a difference?

I'm not sure how that can be, to be honest.

What if you start the game from stellaris.exe ?

And, what is it that you see that connects the cursor shape with game performance?

Nothing the launcher does touches the saves, so I don't see why that happened to you. The missing save files are physically not present in the Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/save games/ folder?

If cloud saves, are they visible here?

Right click on stellaris.exe , properties, compatibility. Tick "disable fullScreen optimisations" untick every other box in that dialog, Apply and exit.
Then in the launcher Game Settings menu, select fullScreen display mode, Vsync off, then cap the refresh rate at 60.

If that doesn't help:
DXDIAG is a program you run from the Windows search box on the task bar. After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Please attach here your Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/settings.txt and pdx_settings.txt .
From your Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/logs/ folder, attach here system.log , error.log .

Has this always happened with this game for you? or it was okay up to some point?

Our similar game Crusader Kings 2 is free to play on Steam now, does it have the same problem?

What if you make a new Windows user and log into Windows as that - does the game start then?

For the problem with Steam MP, you should make sure ALL their required ports are open (not forwarded, open) in all firewalls:

Can you guys check if there are any logs generated in your \Documents\Paradox Interactive\Stellaris GamePass folder? In particular the crashes folder. We've had a hard time replicating this so we're at a bit of a loss here.

A2ch0n said: We believe it is a server issue, depending on the player/transfer load the server has to manage at a given time. But of course we can't proof it. We can only check our own connections and the transfer rates we could theoretically get and it should be massively more, even at times where the transfer works quite fine.

And we play steam only.
Then it would seem like a good idea to try the Nakama option. Does that help you?

In the ~2 years' life of this launcher I have never before heard of it crashing Windows or triggering a hardware restart. You may have something more fundamental wrong here!

As for getting the launcher going again, Please try this:

- uninstall Paradox Launcher v2 from the Windows "Apps and features" utility, if still present.

Delete the following folders if still present:

- C:/users/{userName}/AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/
- C:/users/{userName}/AppData/Local/Paradox Interactive/
- C:/users/{userName}/AppData/Roaming/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2/
To see the AppData folder you'll need to enable View Hidden Items in File Explorer.

- exit the Steam app entirely
- run steam.exe as the Windows Admin user

- run the game from the PLAY button in Steam

IF that doesn't help, in this folder are some .log files:

Yes that is correct
Assuming they are not modded in any way, please make a new thread in Bug Reports on this and attach the saves there.

- Special first contact actions for non-"regular empire" entities only happen for the Fed member empire that finishes the first contact (problematic for space creatures & cripplingly bad for the Hrozgar first contact events, just an annoyance for mercantile-type enclaves)
- On founding of the galcom, Fed members get the first contact influence award for *every pre-existing galcom member* (which often will fill up ...
