Probably best to do a full **clean** re-install:

- move any valued save games elsewhere
- "uninstall" in Steam-CK3
- manually delete both the Steam/SteamApps/common/CK3 AND Documents/Paradox/CK3 folders
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.
- add CK3.exe to the exceptions list of your antivirus app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add it to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list.
- start the game with no mods active and test

In particular make sure there are no files or folders left under either the Steam CK3 or Documents CK3 locations, before installing again.

If still a problem can I get new copies of those files in post #2 please.

Is this just this one save that causes this? or any one?

If just this one, what game patch version was it started under?

Also in Steam please click on Steam-Help-System Info, and paste everything there into a text file and attach that here.

Lots of errors in there, I have to say. Any mods involved? Is this just in one particular campaign, or any one you are in?

Yes, something happened late last week to cause this, to everyone so far as I know. It will be raised with Paradox today.

Gerdenberg said: I have run the game through steam on my laptop just through Steam. I've also run the game through GFN on my laptop, but I still have the same problem with the Shield.
That response was actually to another user here, rather than you as such ... in any case the Shield is a whole other level of complication here, I frankly don't know what to suggest. So far as I know none of our products are tested on it.

I don't see the need, but come back to us if you get any problem!

Yes, this technique moves ALL the user files - settings, logs, caches, crash files - not just the saves.

I don't think there's any risk in doing it during a playthrough, but up to you of course.

That shot shows th elauncher has installed an update, but you haven't restarted it for that update to take effect. I assume if you run it again now, you get no light or error up the top left of the launcher? And it shows 2020.13 now?

Run the game's executable from a terminal command line; when it fails what output do you see there?

Those logs go back 10 days so I'm afraid you can't have gone through my process above. In addition it's still using an old installer somehow, plus some other weird problems:

Check your computer's system information to see whether you need a x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) version of the program, and then contact the software publisher.

I missed this before:
[13:11:36][virtualfilesystem_physfs.cpp:1549]: Could not open file: pdx_settings.txt, error: pdx_settings.txt permission denied
[13:11:36][pdx_settings.cpp:571]: Could not write settings: Could not open file: pdx_settings.txt
What antivirus app do you use?

That aside you have a game or Linux problem. Has this game ever worked on this machine, or never yet?

That shows game version 1.03, we are on 1.1.3 now. Please opt out of all betas in the Steam Betas tab for this game.

I've not seen that before, with this or any other game. I assume running ck3.exe directly runs the game?

My instinct is to do a clean reinstall of Steam and game, would you be okay with that? I ask because I sense some reluctance on your part to do anything that dramatic!

Please try the following:

- unsubscribe from all mods
- delete the folder Documents/paradox/CK3/mod/
- delete the file Documents/paradox/CK3/mods_registry.json
- delete the file Documents/paradox/CK3/launcher-v2.sqlite
- subscribe to a few mods
- run the game up and see if those mods are now available to you.

I hope that does it for you!

There's no special syntax, it's just an ordinary file path - did you look into the .json file I mentioned?

In the userdir.txt file you just put the file path itself, no need for any labels or anything.

I have not seen this as a general issue since 1.03.

Does it make any difference if they are local or cloud saves?

You are getting a lot of mod errors there; does this happen in a campaign that's never had any mods used in it?

As you've gone back and forth in versions a bit, Please do a full **clean** re-install:

Certainly, but I need to be 100% sure you've done every step of the process I've devised for launcher issues.

FYI this is not a known issue with the launcher. What could break it between one time it runs and the next time I'm really not sure.

Did you read my bit about the launcher logs? If I can get those next time the problem happens please.

Interesting, the second case I've seen with Vermintide in this thread today ... anyway we're still seeing the errors in the graphics card area there. Please try this:

- uninstall the AMD video driver with this tool:
https://support.amd.com/en-us/kb-articles/Pages/AMD-Clean-Uninstall-Utility.aspx - reboot
- install the one from May 2020 from here:
http://support.amd.com/en-us/download - reboot again

Also, if you run the Windows Updater app you should see ... Read more
