By the end of the week, we're planning to deploy the 3.19.1 patch which addresses things such as balance changes to Archnemesis and Eldritch currency, as well as improvements to the Lake of Kalandra which were discussed in {LINK REMOVED}last week's news post. In this news post we've prepared a preview of its patch notes.

The following patch notes are still subject to change prior to the patch's deployment. We'll deploy the 3.19.1 update on consoles as soon as possible after its release on PC.

In the Path of Exile: Lake of Kalandra expansion, we introduced 15 new divination cards designed by our supporters! For today's post, we asked Kezlyr to share their story about their card "Doryani's Epiphany". Check it out below!

Like many of the supporters, I've been playing Path of Exile for a number of years. I played off and on before finally settling in and really exploring what PoE had to offer in Bestiary League (3.2). This was the first league I watched the reveal, read up on all the patch notes beforehand, and discovered that other people had created build guides, which opened up so many new options and ideas. At this point, I was hooked.

However, despite PoE being an incredibly deep game, it's far less fun experiencing it on your own. My brothers and I had played games together most of our lives, but fell out of... Read more

A couple of days ago we shared an {LINK REMOVED}overview of upcoming changes which prompted additional helpful feedback from the community. We also mentioned in that post that we were monitoring and discussing some things internally but didn't have a follow-up yet. We're covering both of these things in today's post.

Archnemesis In Delve, Archnemesis monsters with the Heralding Minions mod are too punishing. We've fixed this internally so that the Heralding Minion Mod will no longer appear on monsters in Delve. We will deploy this change in an upcoming patch.

Community feedback reports that Archnemesis Modifiers that convert rewards to quality currency and flasks feel bad. We are discussing this internally but don't have an outcome to report just... Read more

We're currently working on a number of further improvements and wanted to give you an overview of what's coming.

We are planning to limit the number of Archnemesis mods that can spawn on certain rare monsters. For example, those that spawn additional monsters in boss fights and those that can't drop items.

We are monitoring the current situation where players feel forced to swap items or hire a magic find culler against specific four-mod Archnemesis monsters. We don't have an immediate solution for this but we are actively looking at it.

We're making some improvements to the Kalandra League, including a change that allows you to see which rooms have already been completed as well as making the Reflecting Mist more common.

We are planning to buff Tainted Currency.

We are aware of feedback around Harvest crafts but don't have any commentary on this yet.

We are aware of feedback around Minion survivability and are making it so that ... Read more

Lake of Kalandra saw a number of balance changes that were not properly communicated before release. After a week of addressing feedback with hotfixes, we have written this post to explain what our intention was, what went wrong, how we have fixed it, and to reassure you about the direction we intend to go in the future.

There's a bit of backstory to explain. I want to start by describing three philosophies that have been guiding our decisions recently:

Philosophy One: Reward mechanisms should scale properly with Item Quantity and Rarity bonuses
For the last few years, we have been using what we internally call item templates to control what drops from league content. This is where a monster (often with a reward symbol over its head) drops a specific type of item when it is killed.

But Path of Exile is a game about opting-in to more difficulty in exchange for more rewards. You can roll your maps to be harder or add sextants to them. You can play with ad... Read more

In a patch in the next day or so, we will be reducing the impact of a lot of defensive Archnemesis Modifiers. This post explains why and lists a preliminary version of the changes.

Archnemesis modifiers are meant to make combat more challenging. Even more so when two synergistic mods stack together to create an especially dangerous emergent behaviour. However, this philosophy is mostly meant to apply to offensive mods, rather than defensive ones.

We want defensive modifiers to exist, and these implicitly make rare monsters harder for certain builds to kill. However, we absolutely agree that it's frustrating when multiple similar mods stack together and extend the length of the fight exponentially. A build affected by this has no way to get around the mods, other than enduring a long fight or running away from the monster.

We have nerfed many defensive modifiers. Our primary goal is so that when two similar defensive modifiers stack together, they don't make m... Read more

We've just deployed 3.19.0c which includes a few improvements and bug fixes. This addresses some of the issues mentioned in {LINK REMOVED}yesterday's post, as well as a few things we're continuing to work on.

3.19.0c Patch Notes

This patch contains changes to the life provided to monsters through Archnemesis modifiers and the number of modifiers that can be found on them. We have also made improvements to rewards in Lake of Kalandra, and Harvest Lifeforce and general item drops, alongside fixing a few bugs. Other changes mentioned in yesterday's news post are still in progress.

Archnemesis and Rare Monster Changes

Over the weekend, we launched Path of Exile: Lake of Kalandra. The deployment was very smooth with no major technical issues and only some minor hotfixing required over the weekend. We reached a peak of 250k concurrent players. Today we have been processing feedback from the first two days of the league, and have a number of balance and content adjustments we plan to make to address much of this feedback. This post describes our current plan.

Archnemesis
There's quite a large jump in difficulty from the campaign to early maps as the number of archnemesis mods on monsters rises abruptly. This not only affects their average difficulty, but also how tanky they are. We are going to taper this up more smoothly so that it's a more gradual progression (and is unmodified in red maps). This will result in less difficulty and less life on average for rare monsters below red maps.
To prevent life values getting out of hand on special league monsters with archnemesis mods, ... Read more

You'll be able to check out the full list of challenges you need to complete for these rewards when Path of Exile: Lake of Kalandra launches for PC and Mac on August 19th PDT and for console on August 24th PDT.
For a number of years, the PC/Mac version of Path of Exile has used a trade system where players can search for items on a trade website, and then contact those users in-game to arrange a trade. The console version of Path of Exile has used a different system, called the Trade Market. This post details our plans to bring the Trade Site to console players and eventually phase out the Trade Market.

The context for these changes is that of unification. It would be great to see both the console and PC version have the same choice of either mouse/keyboard or game controller. It would be great for them to get the same patches, on the same day, and potentially have cross-play, cross-progression and cross-purchases. All of these are difficult issues that require significant engineering work, platform support and various other factors, so we're not able to promise any of them at this stage. But it's a future we'd love to work towards, and one that requires that Path of Exile is the ... Read more
