Heya Stu, a few questions about the update if I may:

  • Is it intentional that the strange egg be so rare? I've gained like 5m fm xp here, plus a number of hours of just destroying eggs, with no luck.

Thanks again for your hard work Stu, hope you have a great week.

-Raf

E: Finally, my obligatory request once again for a FC broadcast option, akin to that which exists for friends and clans.

Sorry, the strange egg's drop rate is eggsessive, even eggregious, but eggsactly as intended.

Not my fault! It's Mod Abe's Easter egg and he wanted it to be this rare. (I've egreed not to tell you the drop rate - he prefers you to remain eggnorant, and it would only eggsacerbate your frustration).

I hope you have a good week too. I imagine when you eventually get a strange egg, you'll be eggstatic (or possibly eggrevated, eggsausted and eggsasperated).

Hey Mod Stu or Abe if your listening can you change the token exp back to farming? When it was farming you could trigger seren spirits but you can’t when it’s agility because agility is a support skill.

I've reopened the crystal knife JIRA to add a 50% degradation chance when carestyling, and also changed the trough token XP back from Agility to Farming.

The crystal knife'll need to be re-tested, so I can only hope these manage to make it into the next game update.

To the players that requested we change the token XP from Farming to Agility: I hope Zamorak bites your toes while you sleep.

Sorry, no. We've had to move onto our next project now. The time for post-release fixes to be implemented was last week.

I'm assuming it has some other different implementation?

Here's Mod Abe's reply about how he implemented the resonant anima of Wen buff.

I see your point, but yes, the bonus from the crystal knife and therefore the degradation (the minimum of 1 charge) is the same as elsewhere.

Since the crystal knife change isn't yet live, when I get back from a lunchtime doctor's appointment, I'll check if it's been copied to RC. If it hasn't, I'll re-open and make a tweak so the crystal knife has a random chance to degrade.

If you have an opinion on the crystal knife's degrade chance, now's the time to have one. ;)

To quote the rswiki, the Pyromaniac perk "has a 0.1% chance per rank to burn all of the logs of the same type in your inventory at once when adding logs to a bonfire".

That description doesn't fit the actions performed in this skilling area. Seggregration/Carestyling/Eggsperimentation are a deviation from the normal Woodcutting->Firemaking paradigm for which those perks are intended.

The Prehistoric Potterington's Accidental Fletching & Firemaking yaddayadda fixes in today's patches are those that we implemented on Tuesday and Wednesday last week. There's more coming that we implemented on the Thursday and Friday, including some significant buffs to the supply of resonant anima, but they didn't make the cut-off for copy into today's release build.

Implemented, reviewed, QA tested, and in the queue for copy to a future release build:

Buffed supply of resonant anima now that it has sinks, particularly from the lowest supply (Bik, Wen)

Amounts of resonant anima earned from the following sources has been increased:

-Kerapac (normal and hard mode)

-TzKal-Zuk and his underlings (normal and hard mode)

-Croesus

-Arch Glacor (normal mode)

-Nodon, siege cannons, glacytes, glacors and TzekHaar

-Senntisten graveyard skilling

2) Resonant anima of Wen can now be ear...

how are there no buffs to arrow production lmfao

A buff to the supply of resonant anima, particularly Bik and Wen, was implemented and QA tested last week. But each patch needs to be re-tested in the release candidate by Friday, and so the cut-off for additional patches is usually Wed/Thu.

Due to a British public holiday on Monday we released on a Tuesday last week, we had a narrower window for post-release fixes than usual (by the time we discussed buffs with players on the Wednesday afternoon livestream, we were probably already past the RC cutoff), so anima buffs didn't make it into today's build. Plus we wanted to ensure the buffs were properly reviewed and considered rather than rushing them out, as it's a drop table buff to quite a lot of bosses and their minions.

I'd say about half the post release improvements we made to the May skilling update released this week, and as the implementation's done, the rest should trickle through the release process in subsequent game updates.

You can find out more ...

*Hopefully* next Monday the 16th. That's assuming the release team has capacity to copy it to a release build and if so it passes release candidate testing of the course of the week.

Thank you for moving this to the latest sticky! :)

The remainder of the May skilling update's post-release fixes are also implemented and in the pipe. (Mod Abe and I are moving onto our next project from today.)

Mod Abe has been working on the first phase since yesterday morning.

Cutoff for Monday's patch notes varies with the amount that's in Release Candidate testing, so even if it's implemented and tested today (particularly as yesterday was also sprint review day, which means today gives us an hour or two of dev time between sprint initiation meetings for our next project), there may not be time for it to be RC tested.

Launching on a Tuesday due to a bank holiday right at the end of a sprint cut into our post-release development window quite a bit.

If the first phase doesn't get into Monday's release, very likely it'll be in the following Monday's release.

Update: Plan A (I'd've preferred Phase 1 - but we're stuck with it now :D) above was implemented and reviewed on Thursday, completed testing on Friday, and is awaiting copy to the next Release Candidate build that has capacity for it.

So consequently a buff to resonant anima supply won't be in Monday 9th's game update, but hopefully the following Monday. (There's still a lot of surplus resonant anima in the economy, so it doesn't hurt to tempt hoarders for a bit with the opportunity to make bank for healthier circulation.)

Thank you in advance, also this skilling update is great! Been enjoying it

Lovely to hear, thank you! Mod Abe and I enjoyed making it. :D

All of the Firemaking methods listed above will work with the augmented crystal tinderbox, and that's in Monday's patch notes. So:

  • incubating and boiling good/bad eggs
  • carestyling (dry)
  • burning Potterington Blend #102 Fertiliser into dinosaur 'propellant'
  • igniting sharp shell shards for Firemaking XP

I should note, though, that "working" in this case means only adding item, and the tinderbox's XP bonuses (eg Wise). It appears that all other tinderbox perks are related to manipulating woodcutting logs (eg Pyromaniac) so wouldn't count, or things that would disproportionately skew the balancing if we allowed them (Rapid).

I also made crystal knife's effect apply when cutting zygomites, but that's awaiting testing so will have to wait at least a week for that.

Presumably when I'm being Mod NinjiStu, Mod Stu will need a Mod Stunderstudy.

(Though some of the improvements I'm most proud of making to RuneScape were ninja strikes, so I ain't knocking it.)

But yep, the pattern since the ninja and episodic teams combined at the start of the year is usually alternating between updates and ninja strikes, so devs get a refreshing cadence of smaller and larger projects.

(Indefinitely doing big high-stakes projects, despite loving it, is a great way to burn out. Variety is the spice of creativity.)

Sorry, I need to move on to developing my next content update on Monday. My producer's already getting twitchy about the release date.

Please submit an ingame bug report for each of those large hitboxes if you haven't previously, though, to ensure they're in the team's live bug pool for bugfixing days.

Hi! I've implemented a fix for that this afternoon. So it's ready to begin QA testing from Monday onwards. :)

Not an update I worked on, but I recalling hearing somewhere that it's the case.

(Certainly I'm focusing on the resources associated with my remaining skilling pets, so I hope so!)

Since a tinderbox is visible in at least some of our Firemaking methods (and the code's fairly centralised), I opted to err on the generous side and allowed augmented firemaking tools to have their XP effects here.

All tinderbox invention perks other than Wise seem to explicitly modify logs, though, and fire spirits / phoenix from Firemaking are explicitly a 'add logs to bonfire/brazier' thing (and Pyromaniac and fire spirits in turn create the benefits of the Orthen furnace core, so the Orthen furnace core won't contribute to our Firemaking training methods either).

I've also compartmentalised crystal knife functionality from fletching arrow shafts so it can be triggered from other sources, and called it from cutting zygomites.

It's passed WIP QA, but I suspect we just narrowly missed the window for this Monday's release candidate testing. Soon(tm) though!
