WoW Remix: Mists of Pandaria

  • We have made the following changes to improve Thread of Time gain for the Cloak of Infinite Potential. Our goal with these additional items is to give players access to more Threads of Time from daily repeatable sources. These should serve as readily attainable power-ups from a wide variety of content, so players can enjoy the breadth of Pandaria while also gaining additional power. There are four new items that grant players escalating amounts of power for the Cloak of Infinite Potential:
    • Minor Spool of Eternal Thread
    • Lesser Spool of Eternal Thread
    • Spool of Eternal Thread
    • Greater Spool of Eternal Thread
  • Players will be able to find these new items from a variety of solo and group sources, ensuring all players have accessible ways to improve their cloak:

Devastation Evokers will want to check out today’s updates.

The goal of these changes is primarily to increase the viability of the left side of the Devastation tree. We hope this can allow Devastation to be more flexible in their talent choices and have options to build around Firestorm if they wish.

The cap we added for Animosity was primarily to help keep the extension gameplay healthy and not reliant on effects like Power Infusion.

Hello again Death Knights!

Today’s new alpha build has some further updates to the Class and Unholy trees, mostly as it relates to their respective layouts. We heard plenty of feedback on how the Class tree fell short in some of our stated goals especially in the latter half of the tree. To address this, we’ve split out the newest choice node into individual nodes at the capstone level and added a new talent Unyielding Will that removes harmful magic effects when activated.

Blood Draw is no longer at the capstone level and has moved to an optional location in the 3rd gate. We’ve also reduced the ranks of Osmosis, Subduing Grasp, and Runic Protection which feels more appropriate for their effects. We’ve also restructured talents throughout the 3rd gate of the tree to something that should feel better to navigate in addition to the latter talent half restructure we’ve done some updates to the pathing in the 1st gate.

Hello mages!

We have another round of Arcane Mage changes hitting the Alpha today, and we want to do a check-in on the state of Arcane Mage and how it relates to our stated goals.

As mentioned in our initial post, our goals for our Alpha Mage changes were:

  • Allow you to acquire each specialization’s core gameplay with less talent point investment.
  • Simplify rotational complexity.
  • Provide new nodes that can help you adapt your damage profile to better match a given encounter’s demands.
  • Provide competitive choice nodes that let you opt-out of complex gameplay.

We feel that as of right now, we’re approaching these goals with Arcane, but there have been a few outliers that we’d like to address.

Hello Feral Druids,

As part of a clarity pass, we’re adding Omen of Clarity’s Clearcasting buff to the personal resource bar and removing the icon highlights it puts on Shred, Swipe, and Thrash. This is an experiment to reduce the visual noise on Feral’s action bars - the highlights can be active frequently, lighting up a significant section of your action bar, and the vine overlay graphics provide the same information.

We’re open to feedback on how this change affects your play.

We’re also reviewing ability icons to eliminate duplicates, such as swapping the Ravage and Dreadful Wound icons so Ravage doesn’t share an icon with Bloodtalons.

Today’s Alpha build focuses on restructuring the Destruction specialization tree. We will provide context for some of these changes in this post.

Heads up! Some talents are not yet implemented but should be in a future build.

Soul Fire, Channel Demonfire, and Shadowburn
We’re pivoting away from Soul Fire becoming another execute spell as Shadowburn already fills this purpose. Instead, it will serve as a reward for high critical strike chance and will naturally become more available when Shadowburn benefits from a low health target.

Both Channel Demonfire and Shadowburn spells are retaining their current uses and identities; however, we are introducing new talents that should increase how valuable these spells are in Destruction’s toolkit. We look forward to hearing your feedback regarding the direction of each of these spells.

We have the following changes and updates in today’s new build of The War Within Alpha:

CLASSES

  • The number of talent loadouts that can be saved on a per character basis to has been increased to 40 (was 10).
  • We are removing increased melee range talents across the game, such as Astral Influence and Acrobatic Strikes. Default melee range has increased since these talents were originally created, so they now allow specs to attack from well outside where it appears they should be able to. They make the melee experience inconsistent across classes in a way we’re not happy with, so we’re removing them.
    • ROGUE
      • Deathstalker (Assassination/Subtlety) Hero Talents are now available for testing.
        • The harbingers of death, Deathstalkers strike from the shadows to bring a swift end to their targets.

We’re currently working to fix the setup of Professions that can unintentionally craft iLvl 377 PvP accessories.

We intend to remove the items from players that have them, as soon as possible. So we suggest you don’t invest in them.

  • Players may skip directly to the beginning of Vashj’ir using a portal in their respective cities.
    • “Vashj’ir: Call of Duty” will remain available to players who skipped directly to “Sea Legs”.

We’ve completed a more comprehensive set of fixes for these issues. Following realm restarts in each region:

  • Player-characters will no longer be stuck at 0/0 profession rank.
  • Characters addressed by this fix will have the highest rank of the Profession bracket they were previously in. So if you were at 1-75 before the boost, you will now be 75/75. If you were at 450, your rank will not have changed.
  • Characters will once again be able to progress their professions.
  • Characters will once again be able to unlearn their professions.

We’re making a number of changes to address issues players have been reporting with scaling and improve the overall Remix experience by improving the viability of all content for earning additional experience, bronze, and gear. The following updates have already been made to all realms via hotfix:

  • Enemy power scaling, particularly in group content, has been adjusted to be less aggressive. This is particularly applicable in the player level 40 - 70 range, before players have been able to power up their cloak, upgrade their gems, and increase their item level.
  • Gear drop rates have been improved from world rares, rare elites, and quests. This will help players who have had their item levels fall behind as leveling speed increases, especially at higher levels when cloak bonus experience is powered up.

To alleviate potential congestion issues, on launch day we’ve removed a few of the questing prerequisites to use the portal to Vashj’ir that can be found at the Western Earthshrine in the Valley of Wisdom in Orgrimmar and The Eastern Earthshrine near the Stormwind Keep in Stormwind.

The Cataclysm Classic pre-patch is coming to an end with the launch of Cataclysm Classic on Monday, May 20 at 3:00 p.m. PDT, and we’d like to share some notes on aspects of the expansion that players will want to know.

World Bosses

Poseidus, Mobus, Garr, Xariona, Akma’hat, and Julak-Doom will first begin spawning with the weekly reset the week of June 4. They’ll begin to appear alongside the Baradin Hold raid and its first boss, Argaloth.

Except Poseidus, who drops a mount, world bosses will drop item-level 346 pieces of unique gear alongside a recipe and a random iLvl 359 bind-on-equip epic. These bosses will eventually drop their item-level 359 unique gear when Zul’Gurub and Zul’Aman unlock.

With a hotfix that we applied a few minutes ago, we’ve fixed a bug that was causing some high-level boss abilities to unintentionally do double damage to players.

For players who have been inside an instance since before the hotfix went out, there will be no change until you leave and start a new instance.

The team has been hard at work on Season of Discovery and Cataclysm Classic. There’s a lot happening in Classic right now, and while we’ve been working incredibly hard, we’ve also been fairly quiet, so we felt it would be a good time to provide an update on a few things, including Season of Discovery Phase 4.

Phase 4 Release Update

Cutting straight to it, and as you have no doubt likely noticed, the World of Warcraft team has been delivering a lot of exciting content lately, and this will (of course) continue well through the next few months and beyond. As such, to land Phase 4 at just the right time, our current phase (Phase 3) is going to last longer than previous Season of Discovery content phases. We can’t share Phase 4’s release date just yet, and we know this news and the longer Phase 3 may be disappointing to some, but our timeline will ensure that our Classic team delivers an experience worthy of our players at the high-qualit...
