Yeah but he called "someone" a dick. Not you in particular.
I think technically I was calling gamers dicks? I dunno. I had a spicy lunch, feelin' it.

What I read was "Whales didn't buy enough apex packs to make up for everyone else not buying so we have to do something to get "pretend goodwill" from players.
You should work on your reading comprehension.
Read morePart of the problem is that you set your initial price point so high that even your discounted prices are still too steep for most people.
For perspective, in another popular online game, Elder Scrolls Online, you can typically pick up new outfits for between $5-10, with only the super fancy ones matching the default Apex pricing by clocking in at around $18-$20. In both cases, those outfits are much more prominent and visible at all times than they are in a game like Apex; ESO is a social-heavy MMORPG, where you and others around you will spend a lot of time looking at your appearance, as opposed to only seeing it in a character select screen and very briefly during combat itself. So, to recap, they're A.) usually cheaper than your offerings and B.) offer more value to boot, even when priced similarly.
To look at a different, more PvP-centric game, you can take a look at World of Warships. While World of Warships has some comically expensive items for sale, fo...
With the two examples you're showing exactly the issue. ESO has a subscription and WoW has $$texas$$ pay-for-power items.
Video game publisher Electronic Arts Inc reported better-than-expected first-quarter revenue on Tuesday, riding on the strength of its battle royale sensation "Apex Legends".
EA, however, expects second-quarter adjusted revenue of $1.23 billion,

No wonder you guys can't afford real servers and feel the need to price gouge a game aimed at children and young adults.
I really hope you don't think Apex Legends made $1.23B...
Server issues are due to bugs. No quantity of money will fix that - just smart people spending the time required to fix it.
You know we would spend more money if the skins were cheaper.. like for example, weeks and weeks go by with me looking at $18 skins and having no interest to drop that kind of money on a cosmetic, however if they were half that price, I’d probably buy something out of every week.
Don't know what to tell you dude - the data is very clear. We would make substantially less money, to the point where the game might not be viable.
A positive note for sure, but you will get no praise from me for fixing your mistakes. Lets just hope we can truly learn from them.
All we ask is that you come back and see what else we've been up to with future events and releases. We know we screwed this one up.
So if you want everything, would it be cheaper to get the loot boxes?
Yes, definitely
So if you want everything, would it be cheaper to get the loot boxes?
Substantially. This is the entire purpose of Apex Packs and has been since day 1.
So, is your strategy to post this and say we're doing the wrong thing? I'm confused. We're providing free content for completing challenges and are putting the coolest skins yet in to the direct purchase shop.
HI since you are here and replying to posts can you please give us an update on any improvements happening to the servers please ?
If I had an update for you I'd totally provide. Nothing to talk about at the moment other than we have a lot of people working on it.
While temper tantrums are bad, I remember a time when developers didn't fill their game to the brim with micro transactions and monetization tactics. They cared about the games, not only the money. This is free to play, so micro transactions (cosmetic only, as they are in Apex) are acceptable. But I don't like when developers default to "ass-hat gamers". There needs to be blame on both sides, not just gamers and not just developers. People are understandably upset when developers are trying their best to squeeze money out of their players.
Anyways, I do appreciate the update and transparency, I do not appreciate shifting the blame back to "ass-hat gamers".
I worked my ass off on Titanfall 2 - and complete package that also provided awesome post-launch support with a ton of free (and yes, some paid) content and the ass-hattery was still there. No, I'm not trying to paint all players with a huge brush - I'm commenting on the fact that nowadays its just easier and less stressful to not post anywhere if you're a dev. That sucks.
I know. It honestly sucks that people hate you guys. You are amazing, you are clear, you are some badass game devs. But there will always be toxicity. Its unavoidable nowadays. You dont get the praise you deserve for making an incredible game, you instead get complaints about said games flaws, in a truly horrible fashion. Im genuinely sorry for you guys. Just keep up the good work even if you have to trudge through 100 toxic people. 100 caustic gas traps. 100 wattson fences. Know that there will always be people looking to pick up your banner if you fall. Good luck with the future of Apex Legends. I look forward to what is next.
Hey - hate on us if we do something stupid. No one here was ???cOnFuSeD??? when we don't live up to our expectations. Just give us the opportunity to make changes and do the right thing, thats all. Also, don't be a dick. It was quite the treat to wake up on Wednesday to a parade of awful Tweets because someone posted an old quote of mine here. Devs are people too, ya know.
was a decision made to get $$$ , not to fix the broken promise.
If your goal was to provide choice on how players can get items, you would have done something other than "well people can buy 1 pack for $7 or 10 packs for $70 good choice"
See above reply to /u/FinallyNewShoes and get out of here with that nonsense. We're open and honest and doing the best we can. If you want to think we're bloodsucking money grubbing fools then I guess whatever - but don't spread FUD.
This was a decision made because the whales are done spending money and packs aren't moving how you expected now.
Get out of here with that nonsense. I've replied to enough of these - go look at those replies for reality.
our goal has not been to squeeze every last dime out of our players
Blink twice if EA is behind you Jay
They hate when I write things like that :D
Do you think $18 is a fair price for a Legendary skin?
Being that we are (IMO) incredibly generous with the amount of free stuff we give out, including Legendary Skins, yes. There is a pricepoint for any product that the market will bare and we're definitely in the neighborhood with other games.
Have you discussed lowering the shop prices? It seems drastically higher than any other F2P game or ones that sell cosmetics. I know for a fact I would buy skins at lower prices ($5-10 depending), but $18 for a character skin that I don't even see seems a bit much. Buying 4 skins would be more than paying a full MSRP ($60) for a game.
There is a wealth of data available on how monetization works in free-to-play games, and we ourselves have run tests by putting skins on sale in the store. The amount of people who spend is crazy low, most of ya'll are freeloaders (and we love that!) and a change in price doesn't move the needle.
we just need to make enough money to keep the game going and make more stuff for everyone.
https://www.gameinformer.com/2019/03/22/apex-legends-earns-over-92-million-in-its-first-month
Dude, lol
Don't bullshit us
You have no idea how this industry works, what development costs, or how companies operate. Please don't call me a bullsh*tter.
They didn't respond quickly because people were blowing $200 to get the skins they want and heirloom. Once they saw a drop in the amount of people buying they made the announcement.
Jeez, whats with the conspiracy theories? This event has been quite the success, and I can't say that any clearer. We're making changes that will most likely reduce revenue, but we're doing it because its the right thing to do.
But the complaints and such were a factor, right?
The reality is that anytime we add something to the game that costs money there is negative feedback. People just want free stuff. We knew that was coming - but what we hadn't fully appreciated was the bond we broke. My comment was in reference to /u/Billyxmac saying we would lose a huge amount of players. By looking at graphs we did the exact right with Iron Crown, but looking at our hearts shows we dun goofed.
