The latest game patch requires the latest version of MS Visual C++ 2015/17/19, which your Windows installation lacked.

In the game launcher please set Display mode to Borderless. THEN go here:

Latest supported Visual C++ Redistributable downloads

This article lists the download links for the latest versions of Visual C++ Redistributable packages. support.microsoft.com And run the x86 and x64 installers there.

Please try this:

- uninstall Paradox Launcher v2 from the Windows "Apps and features" utility, if still present.

Delete the following folders if still present:

- C:/users//AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/
- C:/users//AppData/Local/Paradox Interactive/
- C:/users//AppData/Roaming/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2/
To see the AppData folder you'll need to enable View Hidden Items in File Explorer.

- exit the Steam app entirely
- run steam.exe as the Windows Admin user
- run the game from the PLAY button in Steam
OR
- exit the Epic app entirely
- run EpicGamesLauncher.exe as the Windows Admin user
- run the game from the Epic client

IF that doesn't help, in this folder are some .log files:
C:/users//AppData/Local/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2/
Please attach them here.

We are working with MS on this, it seems to be a problem at their end.

Probably best if you lodge a support ticket with us at paradox.zendesk.com so you get more detail.

In what way, sorry? It and borderless should be functionally equivalent - to the extent that some games (eg CK3) don't even come with fullScreen any more!

You have several LiveKernelEvent entries there, which mean the machine was forced down in some way. Were they associated with this game or something else?

What you could try is to set eu4.exe to disable fullScreen optimisations , as that may help the alt-tab behaviour you mention.

After moving any valued save games elsewhere, the idea is to completely delete those two folders and all their contents. Did you do that, or have trouble finding them, or what?

You get the same person here as you do in the HOI4 forum - me!

DXDIAG is a program you run from the Windows search box on the task bar. After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Please attach here your Documents/Paradox Interactive/EU4/settings.txt and pdx_settings.txt .
From your Documents/Paradox Interactive/EU4/logs/ folder, attach here system.log , error.log .

To fix this you need to flag our launcher installer launcher-installer-macos to be executable. To do this open the Terminal utility in your Mac and type chmod 755 then hit the space bar. Then drag that file from where Epic installed it (by default /Users/Shared/Epic Games/EuropaUniversalis4/) and drop it on that terminal utility, and hit Enter to make that change. Then run the game from Epic, it should then install.

Let's try forcing an update of the launcher.

Download the installer package: https://forumcontent.paradoxplaza.com/emailsignatures/2021.8-win-prod.zip

Unpack the file you just downloaded and place the three files in the Steam folder for the game you're having issues with. If asked if you want to replace already existing files click "yes" - that's a sign you are in the right place!

Then please repeat the launcher reinstall procedure from before.

Those files show the game is in windowed mode, not borderless. Of course that should not be a problem either.

What about fullScreen?

Has the game ever worked on this machine? Or never?

If so Please delete the ~/Library/Application Support/Paradox Interactive/ folder. To see it go to the Finder, hit command-shift-G (ie Go To) and paste in ~/Library/Application Support/ . Then run the game from the PLAY Button in Steam, to reinstall the launcher.

If that does not get the launcher running, we will need these files from that same folder:

I haven't seen that before. BSoD are almost always driver or hardware faults. What text do you see on the BSoD screen?

Are there entries in the Windows Event Viewer matching these events?
