We have a standing policy, included in the code of conduct not to discuss disciplinary actions.

Regarding players you may find in chat violating the code of conduct as you have outlined - First, I’m sorry you had to experience this. Making racist comments, spam, and excessive vulgarity are against the code of conduct. And while we certainly try to create the most welcoming environment we can in chat, we cannot guarantee all instances will be caught.

This is why we are both expanding our roster of community moderators, as well as introducing a report system with the coming chat system. Of course, you can always submit a screenshot with a support ticket if you feel something is going unaddressed, and we can ensure it is looked into and addressed appropriately.

As far as something being “civil”, it means to be courteous and polite, to follow conduct of good behavior. In other words, it’s a shorthand for following the code of conduct.

As per our three outlined principles, they are one in the same. “Moderation” is not simply addressing negative actions, as “mods” are in some games. Moderation is guiding conversations, providing an environment in which people are able to have a civil discussion regarding a topic. By being helpful members of the community, or “guides”, they are already actively contributing to the goals of what moderation is by contributing to the creation of that environment. “Our moderators are community guides and helpers first, moderators second.”

I certainly understand the concern with such a highlighted case scenario where a community moderator program didn’t pull through for the community. However there is many cases where community moderator programs have flourished. One of which I’ve seen grow and flourish for the last eighteen years without any major incident, and continues. It is a program which will require a significant amount of oversight, and we will need to adapt as we grow.

We like to keep very close with our community, with open channels of communication, and always try to be as responsive as we can. I believe that with this approach, we can see the Beesfriends be one of the community guide systems that flourishes. The important part is that we listen to not just our community moderators, but to our community as a whole, so we can address any issues occurring with the community moderator program before they become significant issues. And I like to think we’ve shown that we have that commitment to openness...

We actually had set up a pre-generation system and I can’t remember why we didn’t use it. We ran into some design conflict that made it not work at the time.

We strongly believe in taking in feedback and criticism from our community, taking it into consideration, as well as acting on it. We don’t believe trying to hide that criticism by moderating it helps anyone, and there’s always something to learn from it - even if tangentially. We may not necessarily agree, but if that’s the case, we’ll try to take the time to explain why, rather than remove it.

Haha, yes I did see that. It took an almost inhuman amount of self control to not post “just wait a few days”. We’ve had this program for some time now, but wanted to make a full post regarding the topic of moderation, and the Beesfriends.

It’s certainly something that we could look to expand on for sure if we’re able to put together the members to support it. I think it would be great to do anything we can to help our global community.

This is already currently possible by submitting support tickets. With the coming in game system, it could also be used for such a report.

As for how it will be handled, we have a standing policy to not discuss disciplinary actions, and this is included in the Code of Conduct. The reason for this is not in any way to hide or shadow how we operate for disciplinary actions, but due to the harassment it may draw to players which may receive associated actions.

More serious ToS violations are handled by us here directly at EHG, rather than community moderators, and are currently handled on a case by case basis. With multiplayer launch, we would be implementing more clear outlines regarding cheating through various methods in Last Epoch. To be clear, with multiplayer there will be a zero tolerance policy regarding cheating, but we would want to ensure this is clear to all players to know what to expect.

Reported cases of offline ToS violations, such as content creato...

Love seeing things like this. I have actually got some reasons as to why this is happening that I can share.

Aspects of this are working as intended.

  1. There’s a maximum depth beyond which you only really get shade echoes.
  2. When the web is particularly large it creates fewer branches.
  3. When creating a new branch close an existing branch it’ll have fewer side branches because the more echoes there are around a specific spot, the lower the chance it has of containing an echo.

These are in place to keep the web from becoming too unwieldy. You found some unintended consequences of the system.

Good day Travelers!

We wanted to take an opportunity to discuss a sometimes controversial topic, but a very important one. Moderation. This is normally a daunting topic, however we don’t think it should be. Rather, it should be something we are open about. In that spirit, we wanted to spend a little bit of time to discuss how we handle moderation, and what our plans are concerning it going forward.

Alongside this I also want to provide a big shout out to all of the community members who make up our community moderator team, and all the work they’ve been doing to help out with our community. Thank you for all of your hard work with us helping out all the players, and working to keep a great environment for players to learn and have fun in Last Epoch!

We did just update it but I want to be very clear here because I don’t think I’m being heard.

“We want the main item hunt to remain outside of trade so making this an enjoyable experience but not the clear best way to obtain better items is our goal”

does not mean

“the best items won’t be tradable”.

Comment

I don’t think we have given any indication that was the plan.

I just want to be clear that saying that we didn’t say something doesn’t mean that we are saying the opposite is true or that the thing we didn’t say isn’t the plan. Saying that we didn’t say something doesn’t add new information.

It’s totally fine to have opinions on what you would wouldn’t like to see. I actually really appreciate posts where people lay out what they would and wouldn’t like in a trade system. All I ask is that you don’t make assumptions as to what we are planning.

Comment

Sorry for the misunderstanding, that doesn’t mean “the best items won’t be tradable”.

Restricting which items can be traded and/or how many times they can be traded is something I have said on stream we are looking at as an option but I don’t think we have said it’s happening for sure.

We also do need to update that post a bit in general as it does still reference the bazaar.

Hello Ekler!

This is something that comes up a lot, so I want to break down my response into two parts - “Instant Cast”, and “Auto Cast”, to try to give a full answer.

Instant cast is something we have fairly high reservations about giving a skill because of how incredibly powerful it is. Being able to instantly apply some sort of effect, be it damage, mitigation, or utility means there’s less foresight and reaction time involved in utilizing a skill, making it less exciting, and less interesting as there is no planning.

There is certainly places for this - ‘support’ style skills that don’t necessarily grant any immediate strength by themselves so have a planning factor in how you follow up on them, such as holy aura, or other skills that are specifically designed to be reactionary such as volatile reversal. The other part to instant cast skills is that while they may feel “smoother” to play, they feel less impactful or meaningful as being instant means it’s jus...

That isn’t a launch feature for us. It’s something that would make sitting down on the couch with a buddy to slay some monsters way more fun. We would like to have it but it is in our very far backlog.

I agree right now the tools we have are largely limited to “race” type events in game, though I have a … couple ideas that wouldn’t be. That being said, I can certainly try to push for certain tools if required to really take community events to the place we want them to be - even if it would need to happen further down the road, so don’t make that a limiting factor. The last little thing I want to drop in here, is when we’re thinking internally of community events, there are two main considerations we want to keep in mind.

  1. We don’t want to split the player base, at least for any extended period of time. It’s no fun if you want to play with your friend, but they’re in the middle of some competition for the next week and you can’t even join them / be too far behind to get involved.

  2. We would want to avoid players taking part in events to cause “burn out”. So if there’s any kind of hard push as part of the event, we wouldn’t want a large window on it ...

I can say I’m absolutely interested in doing community events, and it’s something we’ve discussed quite a bit. While I certainly have some ideas rolling around in my head of things I would like to do, I’m just as certainly interested in hearing what other people think would be fun events or competitions. I can’t promise anything of course at this point, but It’s something I think about regularly. I love these kind of community “get togethers”.

Any player can play with another person of any other level, however there will be experience gain penalties for players killing monsters in areas significantly higher or lower than their own.
