Hihi! We work very separate from the Skins team! I'm not the best person to talk to about skins. I can speak to champions, reworks, midscopes etc :)

Hey Brightmoon, I want to be candid and talk about this in good faith. We get it, Riot is a company and needs to make money, but this still feels like the wrong approach for creating rare premium content. The effort to pricing here quite frankly does not feel worth it, the current system does not feel prestigious since it’s gated by both time and money, money being the only way to acquire this content for up until a year feels atrocious. Having alternative paths to this content would at least make it feel better.

hey Spideraxe, There are players that aren't interested in earning skins only through engagement, which has become more and more clear to us the more surveys and player outreach we do. Now maybe this isn't the way, which is why we're trying it with a mythic variant of a skin that is already available, but having alternate paths defeats the rarity goal for those players.

Hello Brightmoon, I appreciate being transparent and taking your time to discuss this with the community.

I have 3 questions that I hope we get clarifications on.

  1. If this monetization method didn't flurish or meet internal expectations, what will be the next method?

  2. Aside from Jhin's skin, are there any planned skins rn or is it just this skin in the meantime?

  3. Have you discussed any different method before landing on this?

I know some of these questions might sound "intrusive", but I'm trying to get a better picture of the whole thing here.

Again, I appreciate taking your time to address this.

Sure thing, 1. There isn't a next method planned, it would depend on what worked / didn't work about this offering that would inform what we do next. 2. Nothing I can share now, we're just looking at results for this skin. 3. Yes we have discussed many potential options to better serving players who are seeking rarity, but the feedback that Prestige wasn't cutting it for those players is something we've heard more this year so explorations are still early.

I want to say "This time next year" but we honestly don't know for sure just yet. We wanted to put a harder date in but its extremely hard to call a date a year out from anything development wise. The safest language we can use is just "next year". Not trying to be sneaky with it or anything just the reality.

The work on Skarner isn't unfinished because it's hard. It's not done because they are barely working on it.

Actually, we have a dedicated pod for Skarner! They work sprint to sprint on Skarner! In general, Champion team is decoupled from PIE(Skins team) and other teams. We solely focus on new champions, reworks, midscopes etc.
We do chip in to fix champion related bugs, prepping for new modes and new seasons as well on the side!

Writing it now Q.Q don't know the release just yet. Need to find random things to hid in the roadmap like I did last time..though I'm not even sure anyone picked up on it hahahahaha.
Note* after I find the time to noodle on it. It will still need to go through editing and localization. So it will be a bit of time.

We think that will make it less rare, initially, which will make it less appealing for those who are seeking rarity.

ngl... this was a pitch for early asol CGU. Not 30 min but at 55 min, he just wins the game with a cataclysm to the nexus. Surprisingly, not alot of games last that long :D Though it fit the theme of our start dragon very well though.

Hey everyone, we know many of you aren't happy with Dark Cosmic Erasure Jhin. I want to clarify up front that we aren't going to change the skin or its rollout plan, but I want to explain why and provide information on why this is something we’re doing at all.

We want to offer a range of products for everyone, starting at the low end of free or a few dollars, scaling to more premium content for more. Right now, Prestige skins are the highest end of that spectrum. However, we’ve been getting feedback that they don't fully satisfy those of you who want something more rare.

This feedback makes sense. When we originally released Prestige, we got feedback that lots of players were excited for Prestige skins, not just the folks wanting rare or exclusive content. So, we made them easier to get by doing things like adding the end of year Prestige shop, putting Prestige Points in event pass milestone missions, and adding the Prestige Point cashout bundle to events. When we ...

Hey guys! Want to provide some context here! Reworks are extremely costly and taxing on the team due to the amount of affinity that players built over the years with the champions, sheer amount of art assets and how tangled narratively champions are to each other. This takes effort and time to get right. Research and development sometimes cannot be tied to a specific timeline, unless we are willing take a hit on quality.

The polls last year was quite painful for the development team and players alike. By sending out the polls on a deadline time, we signed up a team of devs to work while player expectations are building up with time. When Udyr wasn't even completed. Players are left wondering what is taking so long while pressure to release is building within the team. Tbh, though we try to keep a clear head and do what is right for Skarner, it is hard to not be affected. Because we very much want to delight everyone and get him in front of everyone!

At this ti...

Thanks for the call out on this! Looks like we made some changes to it during the PBE cycle based on feedback but the store card still had the original version.

We've already recaptured those assets for the store card and they should be picked up in the next patch so it will show up correct in the shop.

Most of these are on my watch-list :) Not sure if/when they might get updates, but I know that some challenges need both a balance pass and their descriptions updated to reflect what we're actually asking you to do. Farm Champs is one of those examples - it's presently set to need you to do that many kills in one game, rather than adding up progress over separate games. We don't want to make challenges' requirements harder, so if that one gets changed, we'll likely lower the values and make it clear that it has to be done in one game.

I can tell you if that post script didn't exist we probably wouldn't have done this piece right now.

The fact that it's redemptive given current career context is what sells it.

So, from what I understand, pastry is the lead on the replay files, and this year he moved into more of a producer role, which is why you see such an improvement in the broadcast itself, but it means he doesn't have the same time to make these. Also, good content just takes time so 🤷‍♂️

If anything I actually have more time to make these!

Mostly though I have significantly more transferrable skills which means I can be more helpful when building it out.

Delays with this stuff are a complicated mix of reasons but the biggest one will always be 'do we have a story worth telling that we can tell now?' and when I looked back at this moment the Features team connected it with current Zven and it all fell into place.

We're going to be putting a QGT out sometime in the next few weeks that chats about durability, snowballing, game time, etc. that will talk about a lot of the things in specificity.

But for now, the high level thoughts on durability here are that we're not close to being back to pre-durability, but natural patch balance, item changes, new content, etc. do contribute to pulling it back some.

We expect if we're taking good swings at balance we can't only nerf things, we have to buff things as well in ways that align with a champion's fantasy (preferably in ways that aren't durability, like MS buffs to Nidalee or mana buffs to Sylas like you mentioned) instead of damage. But sometimes, the thing that is going to resonate with a Caitlyn player is their damage being buffed.

Ultimately, it's a push and pull. We track the number of buffs/nerfs we do in a patch, and the number of damage and durability buffs/nerfs net we do patch over patch.

Adding on /u/BarackProbama's comment on this to say "we're looking into this, expect them to change!" We want challenges to take several years, but with a challenge that's triple-stacked against you (requires you to win games AND you can't progress it consistently on your own schedule), it's a bit unfair to ask for this much perfection.

/u/Levinant- we totally agree with you that these are too difficult. The intention was to capture the effort people had already put into Clash, and make sure that they didn't get an unfair advantage, but what we changed the values to didn't exactly match up to that intent. My intention is to ...
