Barotrauma recently reached another anniversary on Steam. We’ve been here for three years now and couldn’t have done it without you – thank you for sharing this long ride with us! Head over to our blog[barotraumagame.com] for more birthday greetings, with a stroll down memory lane as well as a look at what still lies ahead.

The anniversary update Today we’ve released an update with a variety of quality of life improvements, fixes and minor changes. We’re hopeful it should help with the performance issues we know many players have been experiencing, and there are some exciting additions as wel... Read more

Happy anniversary!

The weekend before the last, Barotrauma turned three… well, our stay in early access on Steam did. We of course are much older than that already. Even then, now’s a good time to reminisce and look ahead. How has Barotrauma changed in the past three years, and how is it going to change after today?

The road so far

Barotrauma was quite the different game on June 5, 2019, as you can still see in our original feature trailer that dates back to our early access release:

Below is a list of some of the more memorable things we’ve added or changed since then and until today, in order of appearance!

  • Dedicated server with anonymous SteamCMD support
  • One-click server hosting to forgo the need to forward ports manually AKA networking overhaul vol. 2 (vol. 1 was befor...

You shan't, this time, I'm afraid. We did not have the time to make two posts, so there will only be one proper announcement on the day of the update (we like to translate our Steam announcements into a couple of different languages, and that takes time).

You can play all the new things in the ... Read more

Hi! You're correct that the actual anniversary date already passed, but we needed a bit more time to get everything ready for the update. Look forward to it next week!

The radiation is explained quite poorly in the game at the moment (a lot of the lore we've written about it has currently only been published in the DLC Magazines), but that's going to change in future updates.

The radiation fields around Jupiter are a real-life phenomena caused by Jupiter's immense magnetic field. Because of it, the level of radiation on Europa's surface is high enough to be deadly (which explains why the colonists settled under the ice in Barotrauma).

The part made up for the game is that the intensity of that radiation is somehow increasing, and has already gotten so intense that it's affecting the outposts under the ice. Why exactly it's increasing is a mystery to the Europans as well. The reason why the society is not in a state of panic is that people don't know for sure how bad the situation is - they don't know how long it's going to keep increasing, or whether it's going to reach a level where shielding the outposts and/or migrating dee... The recent updates, and the latest one in particular, did unfortunately cause quite a bit of performance issues for a lot of people, which we've been trying hard to diagnose and fix. We've done a bunch of optimizations for the last few unstable builds a...

Hello everyone!

The summer approaches and so does our next update – stay tuned for various quality of life improvements to coincide roughly with our 3rd Steam anniversary. Before that, though, we’ve one more thing to release in connection with the previous update: the official modding documentation.

Barotrauma modding documentation Along with the modding refactor included in the Urban Expanses update, we promised more comprehensive documentation about modding Barotrauma. This documentation is released only in English to keep our workload manageable, and it is semi-automatically generated and in places quite technical. Even then, we’re hopeful many of you, particularly the more ambitious modders, will find it helpful.

In addition to the more finicky details, the new documentation includes the pre-existing Charac... Read more

Hello everyone!

We've just released a patch for the Urban Expanses update. It introduces wallet and money functionalities which did not make it into the update itself and adds proper wiring for colony fabricators, deconstructors and research stations where power was missing.

The patch should additionally address multiplayer networking issues that have been present since the update, as well as other issues. Please see the full list of changes below!

v0.17.15.0

Changes:
- Display both wallet and bank balance on campaign interfaces when the player has access to the bank funds.
- Players who are allowed to manage money in the multiplayer campaign can use money directly from the bank without having to transfer it to their wallet first.
- Managing money always requires permissio... Read more

We're currently trying to diagnose these networking problems, and it seems that there are at least a couple of unrelated issues that are causing disconnects. In order to address this it would be very important for us to know what the exact error message is; in your case, is it "SteamP2P connection could not be established", "SteamP2P connection timed out" or maybe something else?

Thanks and sorry for the inconvenience, I hope we can sort this problem out soon. :/

Hi, this thread seems unrelated to Barotrauma, so I am locking it. It is unclear to me whether OP or anyone else wished to provoke anyone with the topic, but as the weekend approaches and we may not be here to keep an eye on it, I think it might be in everyone's best interest to avoid further conversation here – since none of it so far seems to yield much discussion about the game itself.

Wish everyone a nice weekend!

Hi! Sorry for the trouble. This is unfortunately an actual problem in the game which somehow managed to go unnoticed all the way until release, and as such you cannot work around it. It seems to affect about half of all colony modules. We are aware of the problem now, though, and will fix it as soon as we are able to!

The money stays on the disconnected character once they rejoin (If you really want to access their money you can kill them after they have disconnected and loot the money by grabbing them)

Forgot to mention that we are going to do a update which allows hosts to directly use the money stored in the bank again, so just like it used to work. Sadly that change didn't make it into this update.

You have to use the new wallet system in order to access the money stored in the bank, you can access the wallet by pressing Tab key and selecting a character from the crew list. On the right hand side you can adjust that characters salary and from the drop down under the salary you can transfer/request money from the bank.

Server hosts and players who has permission to manage money can transfer money from the bank freely and they can adjust every players salaries as well (which is recommended).

You can also give other players money by selecting them in the crew list and moving money to their wallet, or as a host you can move other players money back to the bank if needed.
