This week at Bungie, we revamp Trials of Osiris.

Seven years of Destiny. Seven years of Space Magic. Seven years of friendships we’ve made along the way. It’s still hard to comprehend how much time has passed and how much has happened since we took our first steps as Guardians. Want to take a trip down memory lane? We’ve whipped up a short and sweet article to talk about early inspirations for the Destiny universe, and a fun story from the Destiny 1 reveal.

We have talented people across all disciplines working together to make the best game that we can. However, achieving the level of coordination needed to make Destiny isn’t easy.

It's like giving a bunch of people paintbrushes but only one canvas to share between them and expecting a high-quality portrait at the end. In order to make something that isn't pure chaos, some ground rules need to be agreed upon. Like deciding on the color palette, what size brushes to use... Read more

This week at Bungie... Where do we even begin?
Tuesday was a big day. Really big. So big, in fact, that a little bit of the news ended up slipping into Wednesday. Many of you were tuned in to watch every detail as it was revealed, but there was a lot to cover. Let’s do a quick recap for the New Lights out there. Yes, you’re about to read an onslaught of links, but we couldn’t possibly cover everything without this turning into something that looks like patch notes:
  • The Witch Queen was announced, showing that even our enemies can bend Light to their will.
      • There’s too much info to sum up in a few bullets. Hit our product page for more!

As announced in the Destiny 2 Showcase, we have some changes planned for Trials of Osiris. Mode changes, matchmaking tuning, and more.

If you’re a Trials novice, here’s a quick breakdown on what to expect on September 10, 2021:
  • We want to make Trials more accessible, no matter your skill level or fireteam size.
  • We want to make Trials more rewarding, whether you’re winning matches or earning reputation with Saint-14.
  • We want to make Trials more engaging, testing out changes to Elimination and reintroducing Labs to Destin...

During today’s Destiny 2 Showcase we announced that we added BattlEye anti-cheat software to run alongside the game. Here are some more details on what this means and how it will affect your experience. We also have a few important policy updates on game security to share as well.

BattlEye

We added BattlEye along with update 3.3.0 today to boost our anti-cheat security and enable us to detect more active cheats. We want to be clear that this is not a silver bullet fix that will end all cheating in Destiny forever. This is another step in our strategy to combat cheats and improve our detection and banning methods.
BattlEye will launch with automatic banning disabled while we test at scale in the live game to ensure accuracy. Once we are satisfied with the results, we will allow it to automatically issue bans without a manual review sometime before Trials of Osiris goes live on September 10.
Anti-cheat solutions require some ... Read more

This week at Bungie, we’re talking weapons.

This is it, the last TWAB of the Season. It’s been a blast watching Guardians splice their way through the Vex network, tackle Vault of Glass, and pile up a ton of new rewards during Season of the Splicer. We have jam packed a lot of Destiny moments since Beyond Light debuted last fall. As we prepare to look forward next week, let's take a look back at some of the most epic of Destiny moments.

We are less than a week away from the big reveal showcase. No spoilers but we have a tune-in page set up and will be streaming on both ... Read more

This week at Bungie, we take a pass on Armor Mods and Exotics.
As we get closer to launch, I can’t help but feel we should keep these introductions short and sweet. So, with that in mind, I’ll keep this to a bulleted list:
  • Have you played Destiny 2 this week?
      • Check out the Epilogue. It’s pretty sweet. No spoilers!
  • We have less than two weeks until our Destiny 2 Showcase.
      • Are you hyped? We are.
  • We previewed some Season 15 Champion Mods this week.
      • Miss it? Well, here you go:

This week at Bungie, we begin to prepare for Cross Play!
Welcome to another installment of the TWAB. We have four more of these before the August 24 reveal! Wait a second... we only have four? Including this one? Oh wow. We have a bit to get through.
Let’s start with something that’s going on in the game right now. Solstice of Heroes. Our annual Solstice event is coming to an end next Tuesday, August 3. You have a little under five days to complete your armor objectives. White glows don’t have a deadline, so if you’re still gathering orbs (and objectives), take your time. Dungeons, Raids, and Competitive Crucible objectives for the glows can be completed any time.

Still with me? Cool. Let’s start looking at the future. We hosted a beta for this a few months back, but we’re happy to share more details about an upcoming feature that players have be... Read more

This week at Bungie, we march on.

It’s already late July. Can you believe it? Seems like 2020 lasted about 5 years but 2021 seems to be moving along at a better rate. Who says time is a constant?
Anyway, Solstice of Heroes is going strong. Have you upgraded your armor yet? Next week is the final week of the event so go check out the EAZ and earn that armor before the event ends on 8/3. We had a lot to go over last week with a preview of ritual reputation changes coming next Season. It’s a little lighter this week but we do have some importan... Read more

This month's tech blog post is a bit different from our last few. Instead of describing a cool piece of tech, I'm going to tell you what it's like to be a certain kind of engineer at Bungie. This is aimed at new engineers, students still in school (or recent graduates just coming out of it), and really anyone new to this industry looking around to see what options are available. With that in mind, I'll be talking about tools engineers, what they do, and why you might want to be one. I'm going to focus on the role as it plays out here at Bungie, but most of the information should apply to other game studios as well.
Just so that we're all on the same page, I'll start with something that may be obvious. What is a "tool" exactly? When I talk about being a "tools" engineer and working on "tools", I'm referring to any application that's used to develop the game and isn't the game itself. This could be anything from the editors you might be famil... Read more

This week at Bungie, we talk rituals and reputation.

Week two of Solstice of Heroes began. Between celebrating your accomplishments over the last year and a return of sunlight to the Last City, things are feeling pretty good. Make sure to pack some sunscreen on your way to the EAZ. Wouldn’t want you to get sunburnt.
We have six weeks until a new Season. There are many of us who have an insatiable appetite for content, but there’s always going to be some time to relax during the Seasons of Destiny. Gives folks time to catch up, or just take a breather from our fight against the Darkness. We think it’s about time we start trickling out some fun details. A few little snacks here and there, or a few bite-sized treats to enjoy if you aren’t still chewing on a Season full of Overrides, Expunges, and more.
This week, our Season 15 appetizers come in the form of ritual reputation updates.

Earning a Reputation

This week at Bungie, we set a date.

No, we aren’t getting married, but we did send out a save the date. Mark down August 24 in your novelty paper calendars that you bought from that mall kiosk. Or maybe save a reminder in your phone if you have abandoned physical calendars altogether. We are looking forward to sharing more with you about the future of Destiny 2. See you then.

Back to the present. A new update went live this week and Solstice of Heroes has kicked off. Guardians are buzzing around the European Aerial Zone chasing after chests and upgrading their armor as we speak. That’s not all, Vault of Glass Master difficulty also became available this week for all players. You can get a rundown of what to expect from ... Read more
