Thank you! I relied a lot on several folks on the dev team, as well as some amazing other autistic people at Riot who were my sensitivity readers and gave me incredible feedback and guidance. We also worked with an external autism representation org to get feedback as well as guidance.

Even as someone who is neurodivergent (ADHD), it's hard to know how to approach. I learned a lot over this process! I see some things I'd change now in retrospect, but that's life. :)

As someone who is autistic thanks for the inclusion and could Ornn be someone on the spectrum too or was he just depressed?

I'm not a narrative writer, so I can't weigh in in terms of canon lore :X

I'm sure apothecarie can weigh in, but personally, I believe it has to be a small spoon

Well she was originally being designed as a toplaner. While she was pretty fun to play, she was incredibly frustrating to play against for top lane fighters. At that time she had less burst damage (more sustained damage) and was a lot tankier. She was generally OP because of this, since she had damage, mobility, range and tankiness. We had to take something away from her, and tankiness made the most sense based on how her art/theme had developed. In return we upped her burst potential a bit as well. This change made her more fair to play against, but also pushed her more towards a midlaner rather then a toplaner. We didn't want to FORCE her into top, as the things we would have had to do would either make her less fun to play, or less fun to play against, so we just let her drift towards midlane towards the end of development.

On the brightside the next Champion release is a top laner, and one I think top lane fighter players will really dig

Ambessa is top yes. I think her kit will be very appealing to top lane fighter players

bro doesn't even like feet, which is the best part of the narrative🤣

when I heard that Kindlejack is the lead artist on Aurora, I recalled that he had a segment in Briar's insights article where he brought up the importance of her feet

didn't expect he would bring it up again lmao

"“I never thought I’d need to google anthro feet—and right after Briar—but I braved the rabbit warren,” Kindlejack laments. “Lagomorphs (read: rabbits, hares, and pikas) are one of the few mammals to have fur on their feet. And they don’t have toe beans or pads! I at least wanted to get the feet right.”

That's WHY we brought it up😎

Yeah they say that but didn't give a single example of how that's incorporated into any part of her design. They mention toe walking but didn't actually confirm that Aurora does this. A few comments about how much they thought about it without actually showing how it's included feels pretty empty to me. Why bother mentioning it in the article if you're not gonna demonstrate the point at all?

I explicitly didn't want to list out traits she has because it's a spectrum, right? Everyone's experiences with autism are different. Aurora toe walks, she has physical and verbal stims (which will be visible and audible in-game), when she feels overstimulated she has coping mechanisms like pulling down her hat and up her coat or going into the spirit realm, the spirits are her special interest, she creates her own clothes so she can control the textures, had trouble connecting with other Bryni esp as a youth, etc etc etc.

There's a lot, and a few things are mentioned in the article but are "read-between-the-lines" things. And then I also expressly did not want to call out folks who worked on her and are autistic but do not want to share that with the world due to fear of harassment.

Maybe I should have been more explicit? But I wanted to avoid spending paragraphs just listing out traits because her being autistic isn't the most important thing about her. It's a par...

Otherwise as expected from an AP toplaner. Short range, high mobility low CD skill spammer and will inevitably join (as the last clip shows) every other AP bruiser with Rylai Liandry Cosmic the only viable AP bruiser items.

Allow me to clarify:

When she uses passive on champions, she exorcises a spirit from them, which follows her and heals her for a short duration.
The more spirits, the more healing and movement speed she gains.

She’s actually more of a midlaner that can flex into top sometimes.

Yes for sure! We had some issues with our CDN specifically that were preventing any caching, which really impacted performance. We have been slowly rolling out fixes today that should improve it substantially.

More to do this week though!

Hoping for less issues over time as we make updates. One big bug we recently got fixed was the forced logouts. That one was driving me crazy. Really happy to have it sorted.

What other bugs are you still experiencing?

We're wasting so much fakers of space.

Wow why didn't our designers think of us? Escalating this immediately.

Sorry to hear about the frustrations with speed :(

We discovered some problems with our CDN caching right after launch, which unfortunately was causing a lot of slowness. It should be getting better today. Let me know if you're still experiencing issues!

Weirder names are not due to no translation, but intentional choice of change. Twitch's "The Plague Rat" can be translated directly, but rat sounds uncool in chinese, so calling it the "source' instead feels better.

There's a naming convention in chinese where using 4 words sound appealing. It's like how most champion's titles are "the [adjective] [noun]" or "the X of the Y". Chinese can translate that while retaining the appeal, but has more difficulty with the ones that has abstract titles like Yasuo/Yone (The Unforgiven/The Unforgotten). They are given completely new titles that describes their overall character (Yasuo = Swift Wind Blade Master, Yone = Spiritual swordsman who seals demons) for the sake of coolness

In Chinese there are many literary choices and figurative language that makes certain words sound better together. These nuances and history are often not picked up by translation tools. Also lots of champ names are romanization of their English names, making them hard to remember. There is more wiggle room with the title to make it more iconic. Sometimes certain champions are known more as their title there than names. Ex: Darius = shorten to Noxus' Hand.
But ya there are bad translations too because each character in Chinese can mean a whole variety of things depending on context.

Probably not! At least it feel different :) How players play: Metas, pace of games, mentality around what is broken vs not can influence how a game feel and plays out and even what is perceived as balanced. Sometimes we even see popular opinions change the state of the game.

Yes, we're definitely porting more of the info from schedule to home. When we were researching the sites the predominant user need is schedule info (when is a match happening, who is playing, what was the result). We wanted to make it as simple as possible to get that info quickly!
