We have seen similar reports. It sounds like there's some kind of bug happening here, and we are investigating

This sounds like a bug, and you're not the only one reporting it. We are investigating

Yes, the rule is "If you have 4 cards with Title_X, you will not get any more cards of Title_X (until you have collected all other cards of that rarity from that pack)"

How many can you play in a single deck?

This is the right logic. You will get up to 4 wildcards for Jegantha (or any given card)

I doubt the version matters, as both cards play identically. The only question that matters is whether you can get more than 4 wildcards.

I crafted two of each, but am now second guessing myself. If this is available in flashback drafts or I for some reason decide to buy and open a pack from one of those sets, I’m not duplicate protected yet and could get a fifth copy instead of gems. But it’s not worth the risk to me to try and spend 4 more wildcards if I might not get them back.

You are dupe-protected. Since WOE, duplicate protection has worked by title, not the specific printing.

Yes, Historic is almost always the most diverse format on Arena. I tried to indicate this in the State of the Formats article by talking about how much of the meta was taken up by the top 3 decks. In Standard this number was 24%, in Alchemy it was 12%, and in Historic it was 5%. Obviously those precise numbers vary a bit, but that general structure stays pretty consistent

WOTC Jay. How many wildcards do we get for Jegantha if we have both sets? 4 or 8?

4; we’re reimbursing you for what you could use in a deck

This is a decent place to ask this. Do employee names always appear in mythic orange, or is it something that can be toggled? I ask because I reported a username a couple weeks back that was WotC_* but appeared in white.

The vast majority of Wizards employees should have orange names, but there are likely a few that haven't submitted their accounts to get the treatment

Ha! They're a menace, and their name is not to be trusted.

Fun fact: A decent chunk of Arena's new player experience (with Spark Rank and the Starter Deck Duels) was inspired by a story a coworker told. They were trying to teach their partner Magic, and very shortly out of the tutorial their partner, quite randomly, got paired with this "NotVeryGoodAtMagic" player. And, well, that poor new player had absolutely no idea what happened to them as they got destroyed. So we built a longer, safer onramp before new players would have to encounter monsters like this

Thanks for the callout! We agree the current behavior is unfortunate, and we are working to improve it for an upcoming release

So, I think I know what happened. The short story is that they gained more than 2,147,483,647 life (aka they caused a 32-bit integer overflow).

So, they have two [[Phyrexian Vindicators]] on the field. If damage is dealt to one, they can target the other. If one has lifelink from something like [[Basalisk Collar]], they can just keep targeting each other to gain life. With [[City on Fire]], the vindicators do triple the damage to each other, so the damage quickly goes up exponentially (x^3). That means they gain life exponentially, eventually stopping it by targeting something else like you or another creature. In this case, they kept going until they had over 2 billion life, which would only take 18 damage swaps.

Did they take a turn doing something like that? If so, they were BMing you real bad lol.

That sounds likely. I'm not positive how edge cases like this are handled currently, but in at least several years ago the rules backend was using effectively unlimited-sized numbers, but the client was using 32-bit signed integers for things like life, power, toughness, etc.

As long as you're talking about values between negative two billion and positive two billion, there's no real difference. But outside of those ranges you can get weird display issues like this

Banlists will stay in sync at this point (except that we'll probably keep Tibalt's Trickery banned in Explorer until we officially change the format's name).

You raise an interesting question. We are consulting with the experts to determine design intent here.

There's no intended reason why your access would ever be rolled back like that; sounds like a bug. If Options -> Account -> Unlock Play Modes doesn't work for you, please reach out to CS

Cards were included or excluded from Pioneer Masters based mainly on competitive play volume and, after that, what we needed to flesh out limited. Chandra, Fire of Kaladesh didn't meet the play volume on the competitive side, and it wasn't important for limited play.

Thanks for the report! This (and a couple other missing keyword hangers) is a bug, and we will get a fix in
