That is disappointing, I don't have a lot more to suggest.

Would it be possible to borrow a different video card from somewhere to test out? It's a long shot I know!

What fps are you seeing in the game now? It should not get over 60.

Please report the temperatures of your CPU and video (GPU)
1/ before starting the game up and
2/ after say 10 minutes' play.
If your PC's vendor has given you no way of reading temperatures, install
SPEEDFAN http://www.almico.com/sfdownload.php

There are three crashes in stellaris.exe in that dxdiag, each unrelated to the rest, and an AppHang. That's not a good sign! That would normally mean a hardware problem, in CPU or memory.

Have you checked into those things?

If this is reproducible from a given save file, AND no mods have ever been used in taht galaxy, it is almost certainly a game bug.

But if you have access to a Windows machine you might try it on that - there are occasionally Mac-only bugs.

If that doesn't help, please make a new thread in Bug Reports:

Right-click on stellaris.exe, properties, compatibility. Tick "disable fullscreen optimizations" untick every other box in that dialog, Apply, and exit.
Then in the launcher Game Settings menu, select the fullScreen display mode, Vsync off, refresh rate 60

If that doesn't help:
DXDIAG is a program you run from the Windows search box on the task bar. After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Please attach here your Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/settings.txt and pdx_settings.txt .
From your Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/logs/ folder, attach here system.log , error.log , exceptions.log

Happy Thursday!

Thanks for all of the feedback you’ve provided in the 3.9 Open Beta, and the surveys that you’ve filled out[www.surveymonkey.com]. We greatly appreciate the opportunity to get your eyes on things early, and it gives us a chance to see how you’re using certain things and tweak them before the actual release. As always, things in the beta are subject to change before release, and some things in there are still placeholders.

We’ve been polishing it and chiseling away at the various issues you’ve found, and are updating it today with some additional changes, and have opened up a ... Read more

WendigoSoup said: Yeah it’s 2023 and my friend and I can’t stay in a game long enough to play. Yes we have open nat type, great connection to other games I mean we get 3 ms in other games. But here it seems unplayable
As you can see above this user's issue fixed itself 2 years ago. So it was not a game problem then (most likely ISP), and will not be related to your issue.

This is the kind of reason why we ask people to NOT re-open old threads, they are almost always unrelated issues.

Can either you or your friend play okay with ... Read more

I see we are back in borderless windowed mode - I take it that settings does not affect the problem?

There is a slightly newer nVidia driver now, may as well try that

Then it seems the issue is that our launcher is having trouble accessing the .local/share/Paradox\ Interactive/Stellaris/ folder. You may need Linux help with diagnosing what could be causing that!

You could try just renaming the Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/settings.txt file.

I don't understand your problem, I am sorry. Can you explain in other words, in more detail, please?

I see; usually Linux users are pretty tech-savvy as there's a lot of manual stuff they need to do like that, often!

You are mixing up two separate folders, the one I listed was for the game's text and save game files, it is NOT where the game itself is installed. But it is access to that folder by the game, launcher or both that is your problem, I think.

To find the place where you installed the amne itself right click on this game in your Steam Library, manage, browse local folders. That is where you run that command.
