This is accompanied by the fact that nothing that’s paid for in real money is RNG. You want it? You buy it. No run around in the monetization.

As compared to let’s say collection events, where the asking price of an heirloom is 160$

That’s two new release AAA games right there.

Whereas destiny has expansions for 30-40$ maybe twice a year that add TONS of in game items for free, hours and hours of gameplay, new activities, and so on and so forth.

There's a lot to unpack honestly but I'll say that different genres have different expectations and monetization teams on every game are trying to strike a balance between making the business a healthy profit and not making items unattainable for non-spenders or low-spenders. It's not really my discipline tho so I can't speak as a real owner of these decisions could.

Yep progress is ongoing. Last AMA we said it's coming in "2022" and we still believe that's right.

I know this job is very tricky and a good portion of the vocal playerbase can be quite toxic. Personally I felt that comment was a complete kick in the teeth. I spent 2 hours yesterday trying to play this game and i probably had a total of 30 minutes game time. I had a full pre-made squad and the majority of the games we would fail to load in, slowmo, only 2/3 would go into the game. I love playing Apex but honestly it's so hard sometimes to enjoy this game. I get that issues arise and you need to fix them, that's fine. but the joke you made I think was completely uncalled for. As a Director of comms i think it was just bad form. I think respawn deserves a lot of criticism but dealing with the toxicity isn't something anyone should ever endure so I understand lashing out every now and then.

I don't regret it because a lot of people saw it for what it was and got a kick out of it. And frankly, I'm not in video games to be a boring corporate suit.

But it does bother me that it felt like a kick in the teeth to you. I don't want you or anyone else to feel that. Wasn't intended that way at all and I want you to know you CAN choose to read it the other way, which is a lighthearted way of dealing with some of the same pain you've felt. We feel it too. I can't make you change your interpretation, that's up to you.

Usually legal restrictions aren't the problem for like product features, which is why we occasionally pop in on things like cross-progression and provide an update. Things like hacking, cheating, personnel changes, and anything financial can be much tougher though. Obviously I can't give any specific examples (lol) but you can imagine some.

System limitation and by design sound to me to be directly conflicting ideas. The way I understood it, the monetization team wanted to be able to avoid the bundle issue but literally couldn't this time around for code reasons. The code change that will allow them to avoid the issue in the future ships with S11. Hope that makes sense

Smurfing is a tough one—I've worked on a few games that struggled with it. I think it's one of those things that gets worse over time, as the "median skill" of players who've been around a while goes up. We actually already do some stuff to detect smurfs after a few games and put them with less new players, but I can imagine us putting more resources toward this problem if it keeps becoming worse.

IDK I wish the "meta" of how people treat each other on the internet was better all around. But right now really nasty comments like this guy get 30 upvotes (as of this post). As you can tell from the thread, I think the current state of things will continue until we can deliver some needed fixes.

Appreciate it. I think we get a lot of deserved criticism but hope the vibe on Reddit can go back to "we're in it together" at some point. Lot of good people trying their best to make the game as great as possible.
