Sorry to hear that you are unable to start your game anymore.

When your game crashes, do you receive any CE error code, by any chance? As you mentioned nothing in error history, does this mean that your game just crashes to the dashboard? Additionally, can you please confirm if you tried reinstalling your game?

We're not aware of any issues with this World Event in particular at the moment. Have you tried verifying your installation and reloading a recent autosave if that's possible for you?

I am well aware that the category name is trousers but thanks for clarifying that for us. I was just using the same terminology used by the player reporting the issue, the category name is trousers but the visual icon focuses on the boots so I knew what they were referring to.
