When I look for a server to play privately on my non-marked account I look mostly for:

  • World size chosen according to the player count, e.g. neither too small nor too large
  • No typical "QoL" mods and at least High Collaboration (but again taking player count into account), as most of those mods tend to break the intended game balance horribly in ways that just arent fun to me and how I play
  • Global Currency, as I am team "Bartering is meh"

Premade government and restrictions is neutral to me, but I generally prefer playing on servers where admins are creative and have made custom concepts beyond base Eco and as such tend to play on one with some degree of premade government given its necessary for that. I don't mind restrictions if they make a clear game experience, and variety in game experiences is what I'm looking for.

I prefer, but that doesn't play major role:

  • Fair admins and clearly communicated rules
  • ...

They are supposed to be combined - by two different players :D

Rebinding of all keys will be available when leaving Early Access, the problem with AZERTY layout are known to us.

Controllers and other third party input devices can lead to weird behaviours in Eco, as the game is fully incompatible with any other input tools than mouse and keyboard but Steam generally tries to make different devices (typically controllers) work automatically in games that don't support them by making them recognized by the game and remapping things. Disconnecting is unfortunately the only way to avoid this for now.

anyway i thought it pretty weird to play a local game with a friend to teach him the game has to be authorized. meanwhile i have no issues connecting to modded servers at all.

Authorization in Eco is done by the server - for local games that is hosted on your own PC. If you can join multiplayer servers that just means that there is a local networking issue preventing backend servers to be reached that needs to be resolved, confirming that backend servers are working correctly for other servers. You can create a local world in the New Game menu. (Last Tab, alternative "Host a World")

But the walls are 6 high with a 3 high roof. The floor is two wide outside so there's two blocks of mortar stone outside. And then the inside floor is hewn log. Is the issue the hewn log floor? The stone Mason walls rest on the stone floors.

Empty blocks reduce tier as well depending on their number, e.g. for empty windows and doors. If roofs are diagonal roofs, they need to be two thick, otherwise the diagonal air blocks count as tier 0.

That is working as intended, as for settlements there are the settlement stakes. The purpose of outpost stakes is for people to be able to claim things specifically outside of settlements which is not otherwise possible with settlements - at the same time they are not intended to make the settlement system obsolete.

No, outpost claim stakes are purposefully not usable within settlements (hence called "outpost"). It potentially can be modded, but I can't help with that.

You can increase the base influence of towns by changing

"SettlementFoundationBaseInfluence": [
45.0,
150.0,
400.0
],

in Settlements.eco. Increase the first number. If you use a big sized world, you may need to set "ScaleInfluenceBasedOnWorldSize" to false first and take into account that currently existing influences were already adjusted to a degree, e.g. you need even higher numbers.
