Giving benefit of the doubt, they bought the game on a sale recently and now that they've got some free time to play coming up, they're seeking information about the game before loading it up- Just in case it's refund worthy.

The OP's dealbreakers then become
1: If the game is a big grind that takes way too long- This is something the OP won't be able to find out in the 2hr refund window.
2: They prefer solo, but if the game is only playable in MP they're still willing to try it: then finding a good server is a time consuming task- They might not even find one that fits their needs before the 2h... Read more

Radiation zones currently only exist at the edge of the map to prevent you from reaching the map edge, iirc. And no, hazmat does not currently work, since the current point of the edge radiation is to prevent you from getting to the map edge.

I've heard talk of a coming radiation zone type biome, and I would guess hazmat will work then- But when it'll be implemented I have no idea.

Personally I love the game. It's not super slow progression, it's a decent pace. And it can absolutely be played solo. If you're interested in MP there's server and meeting room subforums on the right side when looking at the general discussions -->

I like that idea. Olly olly oxen free :buzzed:. It addresses the problem, while if one leaned on this mechanic habitually, they'd just be losing a lot of time before the next Blood Moon.

Water in Zomboid is super easy at first while electricity and water works (unless you crank difficulty or get super unlucky), and still pretty easy with a common pot and campfire.
Also very easy if you find a well...if that hasn't been nerfed.

TheForest's way of doing things is a bit frustrating and feels contrived/forced (rainwater I collect is fine but if it collects somewhere else it's suddenly "bad")?

Those issues are instantly solved by making jars non-craftable and making EmptyJars+BoiledWater non-lootable, and maybe making murky water a little rarer in loot if needed.
Boom. No infinite jars, no pile of easy drinks from a single POI.
Find a single jar of any liquid, drink it-> infinite water ala the above. No infinite jars needed- Just a single jar, a water source, and a way to cl... Read more

That almost sounds like something, you would expect as a survival-mechanic in a survival-game.

There's one big problem with reusable empty jars- And it's one that there is no solution for. With a reusable jar, You only need a single jar and you now have access to infinite clean drinking water. It might be tedious; But it's infinite and basically costless.

I'll grant that the dew collector is also infinite- But it's limited in that you get 3 jars a day, very slowly, and it has a large upfront crafting cost to boot. It's also not exactly portable, nor can you just scrounge up the supplies for it anywhere. In A20, A single jar, 5 stone, and 1 wood lets you craft boiled water next to any water source, and the materials can be sourced almost anywhere in any biome- and water sources are pretty common in A20 too. Sacrifice an inventory slot to carry a pot if you're enforcing the cooking pot requirement.

The single biggest and most common reason I see people desperately wanting to keep empty jars is mass glue making via murky water- But there may well be a reaso... Read more

There are a few things missing from A20 that A21 has such as dew collectors and being able to drink directly from a water source and a brand new loot distribution. However, I agree that simulating any change from the default can be fun and eye opening so why not? It will at the least possibly form the basis for a new mod if someone who has that talent tries it and feels passionately about how it enhances the gameplay for them :-)

If the game doesn’t point you toward a trader, then your map may not contain any, or the map may be corrupted. If you start a game on Navezgane and are successfully sent to a trader, then the problem likely lies with the map.

I paid 16.74 for it in Oct 2014.
I currently have 5804 hours according to Steam. That's a bit shy because they didn't track offline play for a couple of years.

$/hour = $0.0028842177808408

$15 back in kickstarter. 1,161.8 hours listed on steam. Likely double that from untracked playtimes such as pre-steam version.

Ballparking 2250, I get $15 / 2250 = $0.00666...

And many more hours to come, 'Cause I love the game.

Go to your library and right click on your game and select properties. Select Betas and the click the dropdown menu and scroll down until you find Alpha 20.6 and select it. Now you will be locked into the current version until you decide to opt out.

Alpha 21 will go to an opt in experimental version first but when it does eventually get pushed to stable it will auto update your game (if you didn't do paragraph one) and break your save.

faatal recently reported that a 10k world is now taking less than 5 minutes to generate. They made some kind of breakthrough for A21 and everyone should see dramatically lower generation times.

Usually they replace your GPU drivers with MS crap. Always re-install the GPU driver after updates that require a restart.

The client already uses multithreading to an extent. Mostly it uses the GPU for generating the world though.
15 minutes is a bit extreme for that setup. You have something else getting in the way of world generation. Even considering the lackluster performance on 10th and 11th-gen Intel compared to the previous 9th-gen, you should not be waiting that long.

I just created a 10k world with default settings, and the generation time was barely over seven minutes.

31GB RAM
RX 6800 XT OC

Keep in mind that RWG is still a work in progress too. Even now in a21 it is still going through changes and optimizations.

In your case though, I would check to make sure that the game client is properly excluded from security software, and that you aren't busy playing with other things when generating a map.

I’m glad they take the time and spend the money to experiment. This is their first game and the success has allowed them to do things other studios are unable to do. This process will pay dividends in their follow up games.

Normally all of this evolution of features would happen behind closed doors and the public would only ever know about the final versions. If you are tired of the development process just stop following the game until you find out it has been released. That way this game will seem like all the other games where you never witnessed the experimentation or due to budget constraints there was no experimentation.
