Punching causing grown plants to yield their crops and revert to seedlings works on the same system as blocks- EG: When you attack a reinforced wooden block it reverts back to plain wood, then to a frame, then it's broken entirely. The looting/pickup/interaction system however has no way of interacting with blocks that way as things currently are; Interacting with something cannot damage and subseque... Read more

Vitamins have been unusually abundant in Shamway crates for me, so you might target any of the Shamway buildings. That's with a late-level character that's getting the good loot, though.

Is it possible you're 'overkilling' the plants? If you hit once to harvest, and inadvertently hit a second time, you'll knock out the new seedling. Like, this seems unlikely, but you'd do this if you were harvesting with an auger for some reason, with its high attack rate.

Edit: I see you said no OLD mods, not no mods. Try it with no mods. If you want it to work with mods we'll at least need to know what mods you're running.

I believe you're referring to "Horde Mode," which was in the game before it was on my radar. In the current game...
  • You can set both the Blood Moon horde and airdrops to come every night & day, respectively.
  • You could customize what's in the airdrops through modding.
  • You could also make a small custom map through modding.
We have a modding sub-forum, if you're interested.

Of note, Chopping down trees to get honey is contingent upon having the wasteland treasures book that causes it. You can otherwise only get honey from looting, or by chopping specific tree stumps.

I just completed a Tier V fetch/clear quest in the latest, A19.1. I'm not disputing your experience - just offering another data point. If there's a bug, the repro will need to be narrowed down.

You should post that in the bug forum. This is the Dev Diary.

That is certainly odd. Do you have any old mods that could be interfering? Did you properly clean the game data and re-install when updating to A19?

Yes, Seeds require 5 to craft, and at most yield 3. However seeds once planted are infinitely renewable. You don't need to re-plant them every time. Once harvested, crops now return to a seed state and grow again without the player doing anything extra.

So at 3 harvested each, 2 harvests makes a second seed, 1 harvest makes a third, one harvest makes a fourth, one harvest makes a fifth and sixth, and so on.

I imagine you can probably re-enable it as well right? Turn it off long enough to place stuff where the ghost blocks are and then re-enable it and your placed blocks will still...

Zombie respawns happen regardless of whether you come and go frequently. The only things that stop it are placing a bedroll/landclaim. So yes, Absolutely place your landclaim block- try to get it so that it covers most of the area.

Isn't part of the issue that many of us are hardened vets who could wade in to the shotgun factory with nothing more than a wooden club? (And then wade out with 12 more wooden clubs, but thats another story!)

Most of those who think its easy know how to get set up, how to melee a zombie, ow to build quick and effective bases, where to go for what types of loot, the best ways to stay fed, and do on.

Its no as much an issue of the game being essy or shallow as much as we're just GOOD at it. Are there many people starting with A19 that think its ...

Back in the day we could also "steal" loot containers and/or build them in our base and would get regular loot respawn from like 30 private gun safes.

Ah, the olden days! =P

Just to note for anyone observing, The closed/open book is not the only useful indicator on items. There's one that indicates explosives, one that indicates an item with a mod on it, an item that indicates if a block/decorative has a shape menu, Etc. Learn them all and it makes managing your inventory a bit easier.

If you want to continue playing with your save and not make a new one, Your only option is to go to the beta menu and select the game version that the save requires. In your case, that is most likely to be 'Alpha 18.4 stable'.

However in going to the old version like this, you won't get to experience any A19 content, if you were at all interested in that.

Save games are NOT forward compatible between major versions (A17, A18, A19), And typically are only compatible between minor versions (A18.1, A18.2, A18.3).

Some people have tried to force their save from A18.x into A19 with some bit of success, but, it's just as likely to brick your save, and even the few 'success'es have ended up with the world riddled full of issues and a character reset to level 1 with no equipment (There is, after all, a reason why saves are not compatible.)

Am I condemned to be a base nomad, moving every several days? Or have to build from scratch?

Any ideas how I can make the land claim block work?

Assuming that you’re in single player, you’re probably too close to a trader’s protected zone.

Also, you have full control over if and when a POI resets (again, in single player). If you don’t want it to reset, simply never activate a rally marker on the property. The LCB is more like an extra safeguard to catch you before you do this.

We are definately CPU bound. Profiling last week after the terrain shader update and related tweaks, show that even more. Just tested a build and 4k res is running better than I've ever seen it at high quality, which is what I normally play at.

I would be interested to see your numbers when 19.2 comes out.

Thanks

I thought the deco writes were 0 as the log says, so it was confusing what was going on, but it turns out the list is cleared before the log happens, so it is writing out, in a 8k world, about 71000 entries, totally over 1 MB. Tried on my HD, but still not horribly slow, then on a flash drive, which gave a 7 second write time! The save timer is every minute, but there is a dirty check, so it does not always do the save.

The deco save code was changed a few months ago by another programmer to fix a problem with old saves, so it might have been only doing partial saves before, but since it does the whole thing now in any event, and on the main thread, it does lead to a large frame spike.

The simple solution was to write it into a memory stream, which is faster than a file stream anyway, then another thread does the actual file save, so minimal frame spike. This probably won't make 19.2, but hopefully 19.3.
