If I leave it for a day, people ♥♥♥♥♥ about the forum being full of moved links. So 90% of the time we set it to one hour.

Sorry to perpetuate a dead thread, but I want to add that the redirect duration is up to the moderator’s discretion. I for one try to tune it towards how long ago the OP last posted. I also treat some destination sub-forums, like the Meeting Room, as more ephemeral than others.

It would be nice to have something in between 1 hour and 1 day. It would be much nicer if the notification a user got was clearer all the time. And it would be much, much nicer if all users noticed we have sub-... Read more

As long as you have an internet connection for Steam Authentication, you can plan via LAN just fine. You only need enough internet to connect to Steam servers, so 1.5Mbps will be sufficient.

This is another one of those examples where people exploited a mechanic, so it was removed.

Hey I have this problem where people often post threads without providing any useful information to help them. Yours wasn't even in the correct forum section.

It would be great if you could read the Pinned thread in this section on how to report an issue, and then follow the instructions in it.

The answer is most likely in one of the pinned threads with tips and information, If you don't find a solution there, I'll need much more detail and logs to help you find out what your problem is, and how to fix it.

Yes. Please use the existing thread, and don't start a new one.

As with all other crafting, the quality of book-only item is still controlled by their main perk.

EG: The M60 crafting quality is determined by the Machine gunner skill in the fortitude tree.

In my humble opinion, that’s because the starting quest teaches you some bad lessons.
  • Put down a bedroll before anything else, so that if your character dies they can respawn... in the middle of nowhere, that you haven’t made any better than respawning somewhere else.
  • Make some plant fiber clothes to protect you from the elements... from which you’re already completely protected until you level up.
  • Start a base before you know where the trader is.
The starting quest needs an overhaul. It teaches the player some mechanics, but it misleads them on strategy, and it leaves out important things, like how to access the journal.

The speed of the tool hardly matters when you have to wait for the concrete to dry for two of those stages anyway. I made what I consider a large base with reinforced concrete everywhere, and I found the nail gun worked as fast as I could aim at the next block in sequence.

Originally posted by Mardoin69: Are you using a good quality hammer? Not the stone axe. Personally, I feel like it builds pretty fast. Any faster and you start getting into that "oops" I made concrete when I just wanted cobblestone dilemma. I've done that in past version's. Sometimes I just want to keep things in cobblestone cuz is cheaper to repair.

I feel your pain, but there is a workaround. Plan ahead and only carry the materials needed to ... Read more

The save files are relatively massive compared to most other games, Clocking in at 150-200mb for a brand new save, and climbing from there to in excess of 1gb+ for a very long term save. There currently is no backup system because there's not a good way to backup such a large save file without impacting the players gameplay by freezing the game up for seconds or more at a time each time it backs up.

If you want backups for safety, then as it is currently, you must manually backup your saves.

There's no way currently in game, not even with mods, to directly manipulate save files, let alone upon player death.

The only real way is honor system. If you die, log out and delete the save, or do whatever it is you consider to create a hardcore environment.

That has not been worked on yet. The details of how it will work and what zombies has not been decided.

Crawlers currently path on 2m heights just like all the rest of the AI.

An airport does not have to be huge. It could be whatever size you wanted to make it. Like a small airport with one to two (parallel) 100m runways.

Originally posted by Timberwolfjc: Totally my point. I like the idea of the hold "E" and make active and/or the two bed "main & field/temp". As for easy to mod, thats fine for people who know what they are doing, but I think it should be part of vanilla, not something someone has to go in and mess with the games coding. There are a lot of people who dont know enough to go in and try to code it in. I am one of them.

I take your point that it’d be easiest for users if the change were made in vanilla. But I do want to point out that only one person has to figure out how to mod it, and then they can share their mod. Not everyone knows enough to mod, fair enough, but a lot more people should be able to use a mod.

I feel this on so many levels. Have a sympathy updoot.

When multiple things are listed in the requirements list, Only one of the options is needed to do the thing.

Miner 69er rank 1 teaches you the iron tools recipes, for example.

OK, but the OP wasn’t talking about performance at all. Out of respect for what they wanted to discuss here, please don’t hijack their thread. The topic of this thread - and yes, I’m saying this formally as moderator - is gameplay settings that may make the game unplayable long-term.

Many people make the mistake of thinking less experience points = harder and more experience points = easier. In reality, you’re controlling the speed of (potential) progress. The zombies scale up based on how much experience you accumulate, so more experience = harder zombies.

“No traders” isn’t something you can set in the settings. If you simply choose to never visit a trader, you miss out on the 4 skill points you earn for completing the starting quest. That makes it one of the more significant restrictions you’re imposing on yourself, in my opinion. No quests means no re-spawning loot in points of interest. However, 8K is large enough to not run out of places to explore before you get bored in my opinion, at least for a single player.
