You shouldn't need a key to launch the game, if he's being prompted for a key and the steps above haven't helped I suspect it's likely to be an account issue which we can't really investigate over the forums. So we can determine exactly what is happening I'd recommend he opens a support case.

The hour glass just spun and never loaded. I'm bringing this to UBIs attention in hopes theres a way they can put in where the person gets kicked after 5 minutes and they have to rejoin. Now 5 people lost MMR and rank because of this
