I don't THINK it will be a big issue because the names of existing blocks should not change.

If materials get deprecated those are obviously missing from user prefabs, though.

Well enough that I made it the default on High and Ultra presets. I am still performance testing, but it looks like a few FPS drop. The game looks much clearer with the sharpening, so worth the FPS to me, but TAA can be easily turned off.

Currently we have FXAA for lower and SMAA for higher settings. These are still there if AA Type is set to Standard.

It does not, And likely never will. It's a largely singleplayer and small scale co-op game; Not a game where there are servers with 50-100 people on them. It's just not really financially viable to create official servers given the required specs and expected player count per server.

If the goal is 8 mins for an 8k map (64k²), wouldn't the necessary generation be 8k² per minute?
The current default map sizes are 4k, and 8k. So the current 4k map will be 4 minutes to create, and 8k will be 8 minutes to create. Though there has been some disc... Read more

Actually stipulation B, that players not be in the chunk for a while, is supposed to be more intuitive/immersive. If you sit in the same spot all the time watching a container like a hawk, you know that nobody ever disturbed it to leave more loot there. If loot did appear even while you’re there watching it, then one would have to wonder where this loot came from.

Is the game being as immersive as it could, animating bandit characters that roll through the map, using POIs and leaving some stuff behind as they do? No. But since your criticism was that it’s unintuitive, I have to disagree. It’s intuitive that loot doesn’t just appear in front of your nose while you stick around waiting for it.

Do you have someone in mind already? If not, you can seek out players in the Meeting Room sub-forum.

That's how it used to be. In the past the world was generated on the fly as you explored. Problem was that it had a really huge impact on performance. So with a17, it was changed to the way it is now.

And lets be clear here. This is a game still being developed. The current generation process is a work in progress, and is currently incomplete and not well optimized. The plan is for it to take about 1 minute per 1k² on min spec hardware. So an 8k map will take about 8 minutes to create on a low-end system.
Currently it's about 20 minutes on recommended spec systems, and around an hour on min spec.

You don’t need a base for the sake of trying to explore more buildings with a full inventory. All you need is a secure storage chest. You can put it on the ground just outside a POI: on the street is convenient. Zombies won’t attack these unless you go out of your way to put them in awkward spots, so (in single player) they’re quite safe even without a base around them.

Later, when you’ve decided on a permanent base location and have a vehicle, you can consolidate all these loot stashes.

Incidentally there is a stealth perk that greatly lowers the time after which enemies forget about you and you can be stealthy again.

Coincidence?

Under macOS, OpenGL is the only working choice. And there, OpenGL produces worse frame rates in my experience than the same machine gets running the game in Windows (using BootCamp) under DirectX. I haven’t noticed any visual differences.

I believe the five-plants-per-seed we have now is meant to slow down what we had before: easy runaway exponential growth of plants. If you have to wait five growth cycles (without perks) for one plant to produce enough to make an additional plant, then you’re more likely to actually consume some of the plant’s yield, because you need the food in that time. And you’re more likely to appreciate finding additional seeds in loot, where yield from looting does not grow exponentially. The end result is that for most players, their farm still produces every three days, and it still grows over time. So farming is worth it in that sense. But they don’t grow massive fields that hurt performance.

You're correct. My mistake.

According to comments in the current gamestages.xml, difficultyBonus is still a factor in gamestage calculation. gameStage = ( playerLevel + daysSurvived ) * difficultyBonus
EDIT: However as Teresa points out, the difficultyBonus is always the same, so never mind.

Yep, having stupid characters in your name is a good way to break a game database too. Most dedicated servers with good admins won't allow you to even join their servers if you have a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up player name with non-ASCII characters.

Not sure why people aren't capable of just using normal letters/names.

Clothing and armor is slated for an overhaul. It’s unlikely the devs will give the appearance of the player character any attention before then. So any ugly parts persist.

What will be more regrettable, I predict, is that they’ll probably move away from character customization all together. Reading the dev diary, the devs seem to figure you don’t see your character much anyway, and when you do their appearance is most influenced by what they’re wearing, so that’s what’s worth making look good.
